Math Interventionist and Coach (Grades 9-12)
Position Summary
The Math Interventionist and Coach serves as a key instructional leader at Brown Deer High School, supporting student achievement and instructional excellence in mathematics for students in grades 9-12. This position provides targeted intervention services for students requiring additional mathematics support while coaching and supporting mathematics teachers to improve instructional practices, strengthen student engagement, and increase overall mathematics achievement.
The Math Interventionist and Coach collaborates with teachers, administrators, counselors, special education staff, and WiMLSS teams to ensure equitable access to rigorous, standards-aligned mathematics instruction. The position combines direct student intervention with instructional coaching, professional learning, data analysis, and leadership responsibilities focused on improving mathematics outcomes, graduation readiness, and college and career preparedness.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Valid Wisconsin Professional Educator License with Mathematics certification (Grades 9-12).
- Mathematics major, mathematics minor, or Wisconsin mathematics licensure required.
- Minimum of five (5) years of successful high school mathematics teaching experience.
- Demonstrated expertise in Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Statistics, and advanced mathematics coursework.
- Strong understanding of mathematics intervention strategies and evidence-based instructional practices for secondary learners.
- Experience using student achievement data to drive instructional decisions and intervention planning.
- Strong communication, collaboration, organizational, and leadership skills.
- Proficiency with instructional technology, assessment platforms, and data analysis tools.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality, professionalism, and positive working relationships with students, staff, and families.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master''s Degree in Mathematics, Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Leadership, or a related field.
- Minimum of three (3) years of successful instructional coaching, mentoring, department leadership, or teacher leadership experience.
- Training and experience in Wi MLSS
- Experience facilitating professional development and leading Professional Learning Communities (PLCs).
- Experience supporting diverse learners and implementing culturally responsive instructional practices.
Essential Responsibilities
Mathematics Intervention
- Provide Tier 2 and Tier 3 mathematics interventions for students identified through district assessments, classroom performance, universal screeners, and WiMLSS processes.
- Deliver evidence-based mathematics instruction through individual, small-group, push-in, and co-teaching models.
- Support students who are at risk of course failure, credit deficiency, or not meeting graduation requirements in mathematics.
- Monitor student progress and adjust interventions based on formative and summative assessment data.
- Collaborate with teachers, counselors, and support staff to identify student needs and develop intervention plans.
- Support students in developing mathematical reasoning, problem-solving skills, procedural fluency, and conceptual understanding.
- Maintain intervention records, progress-monitoring data, and documentation required by district procedures.
- Support implementation of accommodations and modifications identified in IEPs, 504 Plans, and other student support plans.
Instructional Coaching
- Serve as the mathematics instructional coach for grades 9-12.
- Support teachers in implementing high-quality, standards-aligned mathematics instruction.
- Facilitate and support mathematics PLCs focused on student achievement, curriculum alignment, instructional practices, and data analysis.
- Provide job-embedded coaching through lesson modeling, classroom observations, co-planning, co-teaching, and reflective feedback cycles.
- Assist teachers in analyzing student data to inform instructional decisions and intervention planning.
- Support implementation of district mathematics curriculum, instructional resources, and assessment systems.
- Design and facilitate professional learning opportunities related to mathematics instruction, assessment practices, and student achievement.
- Promote equitable and culturally responsive instructional practices that support success for all learners.
Data Analysis and WIMLSSLeadership
- Collaborate with WIMLSS teams to identify students requiring intervention and monitor the effectiveness of supports.
- Analyze school-wide and classroom mathematics data to identify trends, strengths, and opportunities for improvement.
- Support teachers and administrators in establishing measurable goals for mathematics achievement.
- Assist in developing and implementing school improvement initiatives related to mathematics performance.
- Coordinate and support administration of district mathematics assessments and universal screeners.
Leadership and Collaboration
- Serve as a member of school leadership, WIMLSS, and data teams.
- Collaborate with administrators to support continuous improvement efforts in mathematics instruction and achievement.
- Support curriculum review, vertical alignment, and instructional planning across grades 9-12.
- Collaborate with counselors and administrators to support student success, graduation readiness, and postsecondary preparation.
- Attend faculty meetings, PLC meetings, department meetings, and professional learning opportunities.
- Foster positive relationships with students, staff, families, and community stakeholders.
Professional Responsibilities

- Maintain confidentiality regarding student and staff information.
- Demonstrate commitment to continuous professional growth and reflective practice.

Evaluation
Performance will be evaluated in accordance with district policies and procedures, with emphasis on student achievement, intervention effectiveness, instructional leadership, coaching effectiveness, collaboration, and support of district mathematics goals.
