    About the Position: A Perfect Short-Term Opportunity (Great for Retirees!) Are you a retired educator looking to stay connected to the classroom without the full-year commitment, or a certified teacher looking for a rewarding short-term placement? Lunenburg High School is seeking a dedicated Long-Term Substitute to cover a maternity leave for our wonderful ACHIEVE / Life Skills Program.

    This position is a beautifully self-contained fall assignment, running from August 31, 2026, through November 20, 2026.

    Predictable & Friendly Dynamic: This classroom does not focus on students with behavioral difficulties. Instead, it serves a sweet, hardworking group of 9 students who need academic modifications.

    Strong Staffing Support: You will lead a well-supported classroom of 8 students, working alongside 2 dedicated paraprofessionals who know the students and routines well.

    General Responsibilities The successful candidate will have the knowledge, skills, and ability to:

    Provide, design, and adapt instructional programs (across core academics and/or functional life skills) to meet the unique needs of students in a small group setting.

    Maintain a positive, welcoming, and predictable learning environment that encourages independence and dignity.

    Supervise and collaborate effectively with the 2 classroom paraprofessionals to keep daily routines running smoothly.

    Partner with general education staff to ensure students are successfully included in mainstream high school settings as outlined in their IEPs.

    Qualifications & Requirements Appropriate Massachusetts Educator License required (Special Education: Moderate or Severe Disabilities preferred).

    Demonstrated experience working collaboratively with administration, therapists, and team members.

    Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.

    Rates of Pay Lunenburg Public Schools offers a competitive tiered daily rate for long-term assignments:

    Days 1-15: $112 / day

    Days 16-40: $127 / day

    Days 41+: $260 / day (Note: For this nearly 3-month assignment, the days in November will qualify for this highest rate!)
