The Materials Testing Technician is responsible for performing field and/or laboratory testing to verify that construction materials meet project specifications, regulatory standards, and safety requirements. 

WHS is an industry leader for all aspects in Oil and Gas surveys and preparation for permitting and construction. We provide complete, accurate and speedy service to meet your needs and criteria.

In this role, you’ll play an important part in keeping construction projects safe and successful. By performing precise testing and maintaining clear documentation, you’ll help protect public safety, ensure compliance, and build trust with clients.

 

Key Responsibilities: 

1. Field & Laboratory Testing 

  • Performs required materials testing in accordance with project specifications and applicable standards (ASTM, AASHTO, etc.) 

  • Conducts soil compaction testing, concrete testing, asphalt testing, or other assigned material evaluations 

  • Ensures proper sampling, preparation, and handling of materials 

  • Operates testing equipment safely and accurately 

2. Documentation & Reporting 

  • Accurately records test results, observations, and field conditions 

  • Completes reports clearly, professionally, and without errors 

  • Maintains defensible documentation to support regulatory compliance 

  • Submits reports in a timely manner to support project progress 

3. Quality Control & Risk Management 

  • Identifies non-compliant materials and reports deficiencies promptly 

  • Ensures testing procedures meet industry and company standards 

  • Maintains proper equipment calibration and maintenance 

  • Protects WHS from liability through accurate, defensible data 

4. Safety & Professional Conduct 

  • Works safely and promotes safety awareness on job sites 

  • Complies with all safety policies and PPE requirements 

  • Maintains professionalism when interacting with contractors and clients 

  • Communicates findings clearly and objectively 

5. Client & Project Support 

  • Coordinates testing schedules with contractors and project teams 

  • Provides responsive communication regarding test results 

  • Contributes to strong client relationships through reliability and professionalism 

 

Qualifications:

  • Experience in construction materials testing 

  • Ability to work outdoors in varying conditions 

  • Ability to travel during the week to project sites

  • Strong written documentation skills 

  • Certifications relevant to materials testing (ACI, NICET, WAQTC, etc.) is preferred
