Position Summary
The Materials Manager is responsible for overseeing all materials planning, procurement, storage, inventory control, and distribution activities to support manufacturing operations. This role ensures accurate system data, optimized inventory levels, and alignment between MRP planning and production execution so materials are available to meet production schedules while minimizing excess inventory and cost.
Key Responsibilities
Lead all materials-related activities including purchasing, inventory control, warehousing, and material handling
Execute and manage material requirements planning (MRP) strategies to support production demands
Monitor inventory levels to maintain accuracy while minimizing shortages and excess inventory
Partner cross-functionally with production, engineering, and sales teams to align material supply with demand forecasts
Manage supplier relationships including sourcing, negotiations, performance management, and issue resolution
Ensure timely delivery of materials and proactively address supply chain disruptions
Oversee receiving, storage, and distribution processes to improve operational efficiency and accuracy
Implement and maintain inventory control procedures and best practices
Analyze inventory trends, usage patterns, non-conforming material, purchase price variances, and obsolete inventory
Identify opportunities for process improvement and cost savings
Ensure compliance with company policies, safety standards, and regulatory requirements including ISO and GMP standards
Lead, mentor, and develop materials and warehouse team members

Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, or related field preferred, or equivalent professional experience
5+ years of experience in materials management, purchasing, inventory control, or supply chain leadership within a manufacturing environment
Strong knowledge of MRP/ERP systems such as Epicor/Kinetic, SAP, Oracle, or similar platforms
Experience with forecasting, procurement, inventory management, and production support
Proven leadership experience with the ability to develop and lead teams effectively
