Position Summary
Leidos is seeking a Material Control Specialist, also referred to as a Material Handler, to support warehouse and production operations at its Vista, California facility. The position will support increased production requirements associated with a substantial new order and LEP and MEP subassembly activities.

The selected candidate will be responsible for receiving, inspecting, storing, tracking, moving, and distributing materials throughout the warehouse and production areas. The role also requires accurate inventory documentation, operation of material-handling equipment, and strict adherence to workplace safety procedures.

Key Responsibilities

  • Receive and inspect incoming materials before delivery to the production floor.
  • Verify materials for quantity, condition, accuracy, and proper documentation.
  • Store materials in designated warehouse locations.
  • Pick, stage, and pack materials for production or shipment.
  • Load and unload trucks using appropriate material-handling equipment.
  • Move materials safely throughout the warehouse and production facility.
  • Maintain accurate inventory and material-movement records.
  • Perform cycle counts and assist with physical inventory activities.
  • Operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and related warehouse equipment.
  • Communicate damaged materials, shortages, discrepancies, or operational issues to the lead or supervisor.
  • Support production and subassembly operations as needed.
  • Perform basic computer work related to inventory, receiving, or documentation.
  • Follow all warehouse, production, equipment, and workplace safety procedures.
  • Complete other duties assigned by the lead or supervisor.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in a warehouse, distribution center, manufacturing facility, or production environment.
  • Experience receiving, storing, picking, packing, and distributing materials.
  • Ability to operate forklifts, pallet jacks, and other material-handling equipment.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and inventory accuracy.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with leads, supervisors, and team members.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, reach, and perform physical warehouse duties for extended periods.
  • Availability to work overtime and weekends when operationally required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Three to five years of warehouse, material-control, inventory, or manufacturing experience.
  • Experience supporting a production floor or industrial assembly operation.
  • Experience performing inventory cycle counts and physical inventories.
  • Forklift or material-handling equipment certification.
  • Experience using warehouse inventory systems, scanners, or X-ray scanning systems.
  • Previous experience in an industrial environment with active forklift and truck traffic.

Work Environment

This position is based in an active industrial warehouse and production-floor environment. Candidates should understand the following conditions before submission:

  • The facility does not have air conditioning.
  • Forklifts and trucks are continuously operating throughout the work area.
  • The environment may include dust, noise, heat, and other industrial conditions.
  • Some work may be performed in outside areas.
  • X-ray scanning systems are used within the facility.
  • The position requires extended periods of standing, walking, lifting, and material movement.
  • Appropriate personal protective equipment and all site safety requirements must be followed.

Team and Daily Workflow

The overall team consists of approximately 30 32 employees, with four to five people supporting the immediate project group.

A typical day will include checking in with the team lead, reporting to the assigned workstation, completing warehouse or production-support tasks, and communicating any issues to the lead or supervisor. The employee may also assist with related production activities, including electrical-panel or subassembly work, depending on operational needs.
