Position Type: Mechanic - Substitute - School District (Buses)

Location: Mason City School District

Mason City School District is looking for positive and collaborative individuals with innovative and adaptable skills, able to make pivotal decisions in a timely manner, making certain all students and staff are safe when driving our school buses.

Qualifications:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent
  • Demonstrated success in the field of vehicle repair
  • Mechanical expertise with at least three years of demonstrated success of mechanical experience in repair of school buses or heavy duty trucks
  • Communication skills as it relates to working with students, staff and parents
  • Current School Bus ASE certification is required
  • Must be able to obtain a CDL with school bus and passenger bus endorsement as required by the state of Ohio
  • Appropriate background checks
  • Good organizational skills
  • Computer skills - Used to troubleshoot bus issues as well as to document repairs and inventory using District software

Responsibilities:

  • Maintenance and repair of all vehicles owned and operated by Mason City Schools.
  • Successful development and operation of an effective preventative maintenance program.
  • Development and maintenance of an effective record-keeping and inventory system.
  • Preparation of buses for the annual inspection by the Ohio State Highway Patrol.
  • Share responsibility with all mechanics for care of tools and equipment used in vehicle repair.
  • Share responsibility as directed by Assistant Supervisor and/or Supervisor in responding to emergency calls after normal working hours.
