Masking Technician

This position is safety-sensitive and subject to FAA regulations. Employment is contingent upon successfully passing a pre-employment drug test.

Position Summary The Inspection Masker is responsible for inspecting, preparing, masking, and verifying parts for metal finishing and plating processes. This position ensures all masking applications meet customer specifications, engineering requirements, and quality standards. The Inspection Masker works closely with production and quality personnel to prevent defects, maintain compliance, and ensure product integrity throughout the plating process.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Handle controlled technical data, documentation, and customer products in accordance with International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) requirements. Perform masking and inspection activities in accordance with NADCAP-accredited process requirements, customer specifications, and internal quality procedures. Apply masking materials such as tapes, plugs, caps, lacquers, and other protective materials to designated areas of parts. Inspect masked parts to ensure proper coverage and adherence to customer and process requirements. Conduct visual inspections for defects, damage, contamination, or improper masking. Remove and replace masking materials when deficiencies are identified. Document inspection results and communicate nonconformances to supervisors or quality personnel. Maintain traceability and identification of parts throughout the masking and inspection process. Handle parts carefully to prevent damage to customer products. Assist with rework activities when masking or inspection issues are discovered. Follow all quality procedures and company policies. Maintain a clean and organized work area. Support continuous improvement initiatives and process enhancements. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

High school diploma or GED preferred. Previous manufacturing, inspection, masking, or metal finishing experience preferred. Experience reading blueprints and technical drawings is beneficial.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Strong attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to identify defects and inconsistencies. Basic understanding of inspection techniques and quality standards. Ability to read and follow written work instructions and process documentation. Ability to use measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, gauges, and rulers (when applicable). Strong organizational and time management skills. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Basic computer skills for documentation and data entry.

Physical Requirements

Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Frequent use of hands for detailed masking and inspection work. Ability to lift up to 30 pounds occasionally. Ability to distinguish colors and visual defects. Good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity. Ability to work in a manufacturing environment with exposure to chemicals, noise, and varying temperatures.

Work Environment

Manufacturing and metal finishing environment. Required use of personal protective equipment (PPE) including safety glasses, gloves, and other equipment as required. Exposure to production machinery, chemicals, and industrial processes.
