The MICRE PM Team Lead should have hands-on underwriting and portfolio management experience. They must have a demonstrated ability to effectively contribute to the loan structuring, underwriting, origination, and portfolio management responsibilities for their assigned loan portfolio. Ideal candidates bring recent, in-depth underwriting and portfolio management experience across multiple CRE property types and life cycles.

The MICRE PM Team Lead will provide direct management to a team of MICRE Portfolio Managers, leading talent acquisition, onboarding, and performance management. Prior leadership experience is preferred; however, candidates with extensive CRE experience who can coach and influence others and who possess a strong understanding of First Horizon's credit policy, processes, and CRE risk appetite will be considered. The role requires a team-focused approach and the ability to balance competing priorities in a dead-line driven environment.

Key Responsibilities:

Leadership and Team Management
  • Lead talent acquisition, onboarding, and training for MICRE Portfolio Managers (associates); establish clear performance expectations and development plans.
  • Review credit packages, annual reviews and key portfolio documents produced by the team, providing guidance and training where needed.
  • Develop the skills of direct reports by providing training, feedback, and coaching at the group and individual level.
  • Complete regular monitoring of Market Investor CRE portfolio management reports, ensuring team is managing past dues and exceptions to Bank Standards.
  • Monitor team workflow and capacity; allocate portfolio coverage and assignments when needed to meet production deadlines and portfolio standards.
  • Lead weekly portfolio management meetings and participate in Market Asset Quality Meetings within assigned regions.
  • Support implementation of new or revised credit policy, procedures, and systems; champion change and adoption across the team.
  • Assist your manager and credit leaders with regulatory exams and internal audits; coordinate responses and action plans.
  • Build strong relationships with Credit partners, regional leaders, and Relationship Managers; provide timely support on MICRE-related inquiries.

Portfolio Management and Individual Contribution
  • Lead the analysis, structuring, underwriting, and portfolio management of complex CRE loans and relationships.
  • Identify and mitigate key risks; apply the Bank's risk grading methodology and risk appetite appropriately.
  • Manage relationship-level performance including credit quality, covenant compliance, financial reporting, and review cycles with timely turnaround of memos and portfolio monitoring.
  • Maintain strong portfolio hygiene and efficiency in clearing reporting, covenants, annual/semi-annual reviews, and CPAT updates.
  • Conduct annual market visits within assigned regions; maintain market knowledge and sponsor insights.
  • Complete required training on time and monitor team training completion.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience required.
  • 8+ years of recent, hands-on commercial real estate underwriting and portfolio management experience with prior people management experience (hiring, coaching, performance management), or
  • 10+ years of recent, hands-on commercial real estate underwriting and portfolio management experience without prior management experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and interpret financial statements, appraisals, legal documents, leases, pro formas, and market studies; comfortable with complex deal structures and calculations (e.g., DSCR, LTV, debt yield, sensitivity analysis).
  • Proven track record managing complex, multi-loan CRE relationships across property types (e.g., multifamily, industrial, office, retail, hospitality, mixed-use).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; able to communicate effectively with senior leaders, Credit partners, RMs, external counsel, and clients.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to balance competing priorities in a deadline-driven environment.
