Marine HVAC Technician
Reports To: HVAC Supervisor
Position Summary
Responsible for the installation, inspection, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of marine and commercial HVAC systems, including heating, ventilation, air conditioning, refrigeration, and steam distribution equipment. This role ensures systems operate safely, efficiently, and in compliance with applicable standards and environmental regulations.
Key Responsibilities
* Install, maintain, and repair HVAC, ventilation, refrigeration, and steam distribution systems and equipment.
* Perform routine maintenance and inspections on heating and cooling systems, including compressors, evaporators, fans, and related components.
* Troubleshoot and repair computerized electronic and pneumatic HVAC control systems.
* Operate and maintain testing and diagnostic equipment used for HVAC and electrical systems.
* Test electrical systems, wiring, fixtures, and continuity using tools such as multimeters and megger testers to ensure system compatibility and safety.
* Inspect systems and components to identify hazards, defects, or required repairs while ensuring compliance with applicable marine and safety standards.
* Use a variety of hand tools and specialized equipment including pipe cutters, benders, torches, voltage meters, gas leak detectors, pressure gauges, and thermometers.
* Requisition materials and maintain proper storage and inventory of parts and supplies.
* Provide updates on job progress and support additional operational or technical duties as assigned.
Qualifications
* EPA Universal Certification preferred.
* Experience or willingness to work in both marine and commercial environments.
* Positive attitude with strong organizational, troubleshooting, and time management skills.
* Ability to work independently and make sound decisions in a fast-paced environment.
* Commitment to quality workmanship, safety, and customer service.
Education & Experience
* High school diploma or equivalent required.
* Basic understanding of labor tracking, project coordination, and material management preferred.
* Previous HVAC, marine, refrigeration, or industrial maintenance experience preferred.
Technical Skills
* Ability to read and interpret marine engineering documentation, blueprints, wiring diagrams, and motor schematics.
* Working knowledge of HVAC systems, refrigeration systems, and basic marine engineering calculations.
Physical Requirements
* Ability to operate industrial equipment and tools safely.
* Capable of lifting and moving materials up to 75 lbs.
* Comfortable working in confined spaces, crawl spaces, shafts, manholes, and other enclosed environments.
* Ability to work in physically demanding marine or industrial settings with exposure to electrical hazards, fumes, noise, and varying temperatures.
* Basic first aid awareness and adherence to safety procedures required.
Work Schedule
* Standard 8-hour workday with occasional overtime as required.
