THE OPPORTUNITY FOR A HYBRID WORK SCHEDULE AFTER SIX MONTHS IS POSSIBLE -

(1 day per week).

POSTING SUMMARY:

Provide technical support and research assistance of an advanced and often independent nature; provide administrative support to principal investigator in grant administration.

Duties and Responsibilities

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Perform both applied and basic research of an advanced and independent nature under the overall direction of principal investigator.

Design research protocols (e.g., Standard Operating Procedures), perform independent laboratory and field measurements and analyses.

Develop analytical procedures, computer programs and other techniques for laboratory and fieldwork.

Develop research proposals, technical reports and professional articles.

Instruct and supervise graduate students and others in the use of laboratory equipment and in research processes and techniques.

Perform budget and administrative responsibilities for specific projects and/or programs.

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

May represent the PI at meetings and conferences as appropriate.

Perform additional duties as required.

LICENSES, TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT:

Valid driver's license. Personal computers, printers; word processing, database, spreadsheet, remote-sensing and GIS software. Fieldwork sensors and tools (e.g., coring).

Required Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED:

  1. Master's degree involving salt marsh research or in coastal ecology or related field with at least three years of relevant experience in wetland science, environmental data analysis, hydrology and/or sedimentology.

  2. Excellent interpersonal skills, as well as written and oral communication skills.

  3. Demonstrated ability to collaborate and work productively in teams.

  4. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks with a positive attitude and professional courtesy.

  5. Significant experience with GIS, data management (e.g., QA/QC) and data processing (graphing, statistics) as well as with coastal fieldwork.

  6. Must have own transportation and be able to travel for fieldwork and to conference or other project meetings.

Preferred Qualifications

PREFERRED:

  • Experience training/or supervising students or colleagues.

  • Experience with coding (e.g., python, R).

  • Experience with fieldwork planning, logistics, safety and activities (e.g., sampling).

  • Experience with water quality loggers, water-level sensors, coring, quadrat measurements and other data collection methods.

  • Experience with data visualization, drone mapping and remote sensing.

Environmental Conditions

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS:

This position is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions. However, travel, lab and fieldwork include inherent risks. Fieldwork may involve rigorous effort in hot, humid and buggy conditions or activities during cold, wet or icy periods.
