Manufacturing Systems Maintenance Technologist

Do you instinctively chase the root cause? Are CNC cells, robotic welders, and automated paint lines your preferred puzzle? At Powell in Houston, TX 77075 — a leader in engineer-to-order switchgear — we’re looking for a technologist who thrives on complexity and champions equipment reliability.

Your mission

Keep sophisticated production equipment online by applying rigorous diagnostics, precise repairs, and proactive maintenance. You’ll coordinate through our CMMS, align with safety and environmental standards, and collaborate across departments to deliver stable throughput.

What challenges will you tackle?

  • Own preventive and corrective maintenance on: CNC Laser Cutting, CNC Turret Punch Press, Robotic Welding, Automated Material Handling, and Automated Powder Coat Painting systems.
  • Read assembly drawings, layouts, and electrical schematics to isolate faults and verify solutions.
  • Troubleshoot/repair: electrical circuits (occasional), control devices, hydraulic circuits/components, and pneumatic systems.
  • Identify and source parts from drawings, schematics, and parts lists; install and validate repairs.
  • Use CMMS work orders end-to-end: plan, execute, document, and close with accurate notes.
  • Operate safely around traffic areas, at heights, and near electricity, hydraulics, and heavy moving equipment.
  • Support teammates; share knowledge; build a high-performing maintenance culture.

Are you our ideal teammate?

  • Comfortable with computers, CMMS, and Microsoft Suite; disciplined with digital record-keeping.
  • Strong math background; broad mechanical/electrical knowledge; excellent manual dexterity and mechanical aptitude.
  • Self-motivated, change-minded, collaborative, and effective with limited supervision.
  • Fluent in English; clear written and verbal communicator.
  • Reads mechanical/electrical schematics with ease; makes smart, rapid prioritization and independent judgments.
  • Electrical troubleshooting from 12 V DC through 480 V AC 3-Phase.
  • Safe operation of hand/power tools, industrial machines, digital cameras, phones, scanners, and controls.
  • Ready for long hours/weekends when needed; able to concentrate in noisy environments.

Where you’ll work and what it takes physically

  • Safety-sensitive position in a temperature-controlled industrial environment with occasional outdoor work.
  • PPE always: safety shoes, hard hats/bump caps, safety glasses, hearing protection, fall protection harnesses as required; respirators when required.
  • Climb and work from ladders (step, A-frame, etc.) and elevated structures up to ~20 feet using lifts and fall protection.
  • Vision demands include near/far/color vision, peripheral and depth perception, focus adjustment, and strong hand–eye coordination.
  • Balance/agility to prevent falls while walking, standing, crouching, and ascending/descending stairs or ladders.
  • Frequent bending, reaching, standing, and walking; frequent overhead and full-extension arm use.
  • Lift up to 50 lbs; frequent hand and power tool usage.
