Be the Engineering Backbone of Reliable Production

Dexter, a premier designer and manufacturer of axles, suspension systems, brakes, doors, venting products, trailer parts, accessories, and towing components for the commercial trailer, RV, heavy-duty, marine, agriculture, and manufactured housing markets, is hiring a Manufacturing Process & Maintenance Engineering Lead in Albion, IN.

In this role, you’ll champion day-to-day production needs across our multi-plant manufacturing campus, lead our Maintenance department, drive large capital initiatives with cross-functional partners, and turn process improvements into shop-floor reality.

A day in the life

  • Walk the floor with maintenance and operations to solve issues in real time—mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and electrical.
  • Update and improve process flow diagrams and facility layouts to enhance safety, throughput, and efficiency.
  • Guide new product introductions by joining cross-functional design reviews, shaping standards, and approving prints for manufacturability and cost.
  • Own the mechanical design of fixtures, tooling, components, and assemblies from scope to completion.
  • Lead capital projects, coordinate stakeholders, and deliver results to the production floor.

How you’ll make an impact

Production Support

  • Provide technical expertise, structured problem solving, and troubleshooting guidance to keep operations running safely and efficiently.
  • Identify and implement improvements that elevate safety and productivity.

Project Leadership

  • Participate in design reviews to establish standard and custom product designs for new launches.
  • Develop and communicate manufacturing standards for launches, projects, and efficiency improvements across departments.
  • Review and approve engineering prints and specifications for optimal manufacturability, cost, tooling, and process flow.
  • Collaborate closely with the Product Design team to resolve design challenges and inform cost-effective solutions.

Mechanical Design Ownership

  • Analyze existing designs to fully understand function and constraints.
  • Drive the complete lifecycle of mechanical design work—from definition through implementation.

Process & Continuous Improvement

  • Lead and participate in strategic initiatives (cycle time, safety, quality, and cost).
  • Contribute to team-based continuous improvement projects and self-direct daily CI actions.

Quality Partnership

  • Support the Quality team on audit follow-ups, field service needs, and resolution of manufacturing-related quality issues.

Skills that set you up for success

Problem Solving

  • Define problems, collect data, establish facts, and communicate analytical decisions.
  • Operate with urgency and consistently meet deadlines.
  • Comfortable with hands-on troubleshooting alongside operators and maintenance technicians (mechanical, pneumatic, hydraulic, electrical).

Background & experience
