Position Summary
The Mid-Level Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for owning and improving manufacturing processes within a precision machining environment. This role focuses on process stability, troubleshooting, and driving measurable improvements in quality, efficiency, and cost. The ideal candidate has a strong technical foundation, is comfortable working independently, and collaborates effectively with cross-functional teams to support production and continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Manufacturing & Process Ownership
Own and maintain assigned manufacturing processes, ensuring consistent performance in safety, quality, delivery, and cost
Develop, optimize, and document machining processes, including tooling, fixturing, and workholding
Lead process validation activities and ensure production readiness for new and existing products
Create and maintain work instructions, SOPs, and process documentation
Support production with timely troubleshooting and resolution of technical issues
Production Support & Equipment
Serve as the primary engineering resource for designated production areas
Collaborate with Operations and Maintenance to improve equipment reliability and uptime
Support equipment selection, installation, and process integration
Monitor and improve key metrics such as OEE, scrap, and cycle time
Quality & Compliance
Ensure processes meet AS9100, IATF 16949, ISO, and customer-specific requirements
Support APQP, PFMEA, control plans, and PPAP activities as needed
Lead and participate in root cause analysis (5-Why, Fishbone, 8D) for production and quality issues
Implement corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to prevent recurrence
Continuous Improvement
Identify and lead continuous improvement initiatives with measurable results
Analyze production data to identify inefficiencies, bottlenecks, and improvement opportunities
Drive cost reduction, yield improvement, and cycle time reduction projects
Promote Lean manufacturing principles and standardization across operations
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field
3–5 years of experience in engineering in a manufacturing environment
Strong knowledge of machining processes, process control, and production support
Experience troubleshooting and improving manufacturing processes independently
Proficiency in Microsoft Office; ERP/MRP system experience preferred
Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, GD&T, and specifications
Preferred Qualifications
Experience in precision machining, automotive, aerospace, or high-reliability manufacturing
Familiarity with APQP, PPAP, PFMEA, and control plans
Lean, Six Sigma, or continuous improvement certification
Experience supporting CNC machining environments and process optimization
