A bit about us:

Our client is a highly respected manufacturer specializing in engineered metal products for demanding industrial applications. The operation requires strong coordination between engineering, production, quality, maintenance, and operations to deliver safe, efficient, high-quality manufacturing outcomes. The team is focused on improving production processes, strengthening standard work, supporting equipment and automation, and continuously improving quality, cost, safety, and throughput.

Why join us?

This is a strong opportunity for a hands-on Manufacturing Engineer who wants to make a direct impact on production performance. This role will support and improve manufacturing processes, troubleshoot technical issues on the floor, work with equipment and automated machinery, support new product and equipment introductions, and help drive continuous improvement across the plant. It is a great fit for someone who enjoys working closely with operators, engineers, quality teams, and production leaders to solve real manufacturing challenges.

Job Details

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing, and improving manufacturing processes to enhance production efficiency, product quality, and workplace safety. This role bridges engineering and production teams to ensure the optimal use of equipment, materials, labor, tooling, fixtures, and manufacturing systems.

The Manufacturing Engineer will support existing production processes, develop and maintain work instructions, analyze production data, troubleshoot manufacturing issues, support new product and equipment introductions, and drive process improvements tied to safety, quality, delivery, cost, throughput, scrap, cycle time, and downtime.

Depending on experience level, this role may focus on execution and support under guidance, independent ownership of manufacturing processes, or senior-level leadership of complex process improvement, automation, capital equipment, and plant-wide continuous improvement initiatives.

Key Responsibilities
Manufacturing Process Support & Improvement

Support, design, develop, and optimize manufacturing processes to improve safety, quality, efficiency, cost, and production flow.

Evaluate current production processes and identify opportunities to reduce waste, improve throughput, lower scrap, reduce downtime, and improve overall process performance.

Assist with or lead troubleshooting of production issues and support root cause analysis to resolve recurring manufacturing problems.

Implement corrective and preventive actions that improve process stability, production readiness, and manufacturing consistency.

Help ensure manufacturing processes are practical, repeatable, documented, and aligned with production requirements.

Production Documentation & Standard Work

Develop and maintain detailed process documentation, including work instructions, standard operating procedures, process flows, and manufacturing documentation.

Support standard work development to improve consistency across production processes.

Ensure operators and production teams have clear documentation needed to perform work safely, efficiently, and to quality standards.

Update documentation as processes, equipment, products, tooling, or production requirements change.

Data Analysis, KPIs & Performance Improvement

Collect, analyze, and interpret production data related to scrap, cycle time, downtime, throughput, quality, and process performance.

Use production data to identify trends, bottlenecks, recurring issues, and improvement opportunities.

Establish, monitor, and improve manufacturing KPIs while driving accountability across teams.

Provide data-driven recommendations to improve production efficiency, cost, quality, safety, and delivery performance.

Root Cause Analysis & Technical Problem Solving

Participate in or lead root cause analysis for manufacturing, quality, equipment, tooling, and process issues.

Serve as a technical resource for complex manufacturing challenges and process optimization.

Work closely with production, quality, maintenance, and engineering teams to resolve day-to-day manufacturing issues.

Explain technical concepts in practical terms so operators, supervisors, and cross-functional teams can understand and act on solutions.

Tooling, Fixtures, Equipment & Automation

Manage or support tooling, fixture, and equipment selection to meet production requirements.

Provide hands-on support for equipment and automated machinery used in the manufacturing process.

Support equipment layout, installation, commissioning, troubleshooting, and ongoing process improvements.

Participate in or lead capital equipment justification, selection, implementation, and startup activity.

Support industrial automation and manufacturing systems that improve efficiency, repeatability, safety, and production capability.

New Product, Equipment & Capability Introductions

Support new product introductions by assisting with process setup, documentation, validation, and production readiness.

Lead or support cross-functional teams through new product launches, process standardization, and manufacturing readiness activities.

Support new equipment and capability introductions, including process validation, operator training, workflow planning, and documentation.

Influence product design through Design for Manufacturability and Design for Assembly principles.

Lean, Six Sigma & Continuous Improvement

Lead or support continuous improvement initiatives using Lean, Six Sigma, and structured problem-solving methodologies.

Drive cost reduction, waste elimination, process standardization, and production efficiency initiatives.

Support plant-wide continuous improvement projects focused on safety, quality, delivery, cost, throughput, and process reliability.

Promote a culture of continuous improvement by identifying practical opportunities to improve workflow, equipment use, labor efficiency, and manufacturing performance.

CAD, ERP & Router Support

Use CAD software to support manufacturing layouts, tooling, fixtures, equipment changes, and process improvements.

Work with CAD tools such as Inventor and AutoCAD to support manufacturing engineering needs.

Support ERP systems, router creation, production planning inputs, and manufacturing documentation where applicable.

Help ensure ERP and routing information accurately supports production execution, labor planning, and manufacturing process requirements.

Cross-Functional Collaboration & Training

Collaborate with design, quality, operations, production, maintenance, suppliers, and external partners to improve manufacturing outcomes.

Coordinate with production and quality teams to resolve day-to-day manufacturing issues and support production goals.

Provide technical guidance, training, and support to operators, junior engineers, and technical staff.

Mentor and develop junior engineers and technical team members where applicable.

Work effectively across departments while managing multiple projects, changing priorities, and production deadlines.

Senior-Level Manufacturing Engineering Leadership

For senior-level candidates, lead the design and implementation of advanced manufacturing processes and systems.

Drive plant-wide continuous improvement initiatives, manufacturing strategy, automation planning, and cost reduction efforts.

Lead major capital projects, including equipment selection, layout, installation, commissioning, and production startup.

Develop long-term manufacturing strategies tied to automation, capacity planning, production capability, and operational growth.
