WHO WE''RE LOOKING FOR

The Manager, Vehicle Maintenance, oversees the daily activities of the vehicle maintenance operations in the north or south garage. Responsible for ensuring that the buses are maintained and meet the needs of daily pullout for CapMetro. Oversee the performance of the contracted vehicle maintenance service providers.

WHAT YOU BRING

  • Bachelor's degree in business, Public Administration, or related field. Additional relevant experience may be substituted for the degree on a year-to-year basis for up to four years.
  • Eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience in transportation maintenance operations
  • Two (2) years supervisory or lead experience of transit maintenance staff.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Comprehensive working knowledge of vehicle maintenance repair methods and processes, building maintenance methods and processes, quality assurance methods and processes, vehicle operating systems, and current labor agreement.
  • Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to coordinate with other departments in the development of policies and procedures, and to establish and maintain effective working relations with employees, senior managers, and the public.
  • Effective organization skills, ability to handle multi-task projects and make decisions in an expedient manner.
  • Ability to design and engineer solutions to maintenance problems.
  • Skill in the use of software applications including Word, Excel, Empac, Oracle, and Project management.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work is performed in an office and outside environment with exposure to inclement weather and adverse weather conditions. This position works with multiple project timelines and is responsible for managing employees performing work of a complex nature.

Incumbent must have the ability to stand, walk and travel 90% throughout the workday. This position will need to have the ability to work varying shifts, days, nights, weekends, holidays, and rotating shifts, to meet the department''s needs. Must be able to safely operate a motor vehicle. Must be able to use a telephone or headset equipment. Incumbents must be able to lift and move material weighing up to 20 lbs., perform work at a computer terminal for 6-8 hours a day, and function in an environment with constant interruptions. This position may require work beyond a normal forty-hour weekly schedule.

Mobility Status:

As an Onsite position, the incumbent's primary workplace is a CapMetro facility or field location. Expected to work in the office 4+ days a week. Mobility status is subject to change at any time based on business needs or organizational decisions.

SAFETY SENSITIVE POSITION

This position is identified as a FTA safety-sensitive position. An employee in this position must participate in the Employer's testing program for prohibited substances. Participation in this program is a condition of employment with CapMetro. A safety-sensitive employee is randomly tested for prohibited drug use or alcohol misuse while the employee is performing safety-sensitive functions; just before the employee is to perform safety sensitive functions; or just after the employee has ceased performing such functions.

Operations & Supervision

  • Oversee supervision of the daily activities of the vehicle maintenance department for either the north maintenance garage or the south maintenance garage.
  • Assess emergency situations that occur in day-to-day operations by providing guidance.

Fleet Performance & Reliability

  • Monitor failures and implement repair solutions to enhance the reliability of the fleet.
  • Monitor fleet condition and implement repair procedures to maintain fleet to highest quality.
  • Analyze and report breakdowns and equipment condition to the Superintendent and determine repair options.

Contractor & Vendor Coordination

  • Monitor performance and coordinates solutions of radio systems contractors.
  • Consult with transportation contractors to ensure that vehicle maintenance policies and practices are followed.
  • Consult with equipment manufacturers and vendors on maintenance issues.
  • Provide input for purchase of Capital equipment
  • Support Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority's Safety Management Systems (SMS) process by ensuring staff follows safety and security policies, considers safety in every action, and ensures safety and security concerns are reported.
  • Perform other position related duties as required and/or assigned.
