The Manager, Plant Process Technology serves as a member of the plant leadership team at Mactac's Spartanburg, SC facility and is responsible for leading a combined Engineering and Quality Control organization. This role is accountable for the development, implementation, and maintenance of the manufacturing site's Quality Management System (ISO 9001:2015), ensuring through analysis and audit that the QMS is both effective and efficient in meeting the overall organizational objectives for quality assurance, quality control and customer satisfaction. Additionally, this role leads a team responsible for owning initiatives that reduce waste, cost, and customer complaints through root cause problem solving and corrective action planning, and for identifying, developing, and implementing continuous improvement projects/processes which ensure that products are manufactured to their specifications, via process optimization.
Responsibilities include:
Managing, mentoring, coaching, and leading a team of process engineers, manufacturing engineers, and quality control technicians.
Developing and executing a project portfolio of continuous improvement projects to increase uptime, reduce customer complaints, and address key internal and external defects.
Managing the strategic alignment of the process engineering group.
Developing, implementing, and maintaining the Quality Management System, as defined by the ISO 9001:2015 standard and other external customer requirements, and serving as the system management representative.
In the near future, the site will transition to the ISO 9001:2026 standard.
Ensuring long-term compliance to the QMS through a system of auditing and reporting.
Developing a department and staff, which displays both professionalism and competence, relative to recognized methods and behaviors in the realm of quality management and continuous improvement.
Training and mentoring staff as required to establish basic knowledge of quality management techniques such as audit, measurement systems, basic statistical methods and application, standardized problem solving, and other relevant topics.
Training and mentoring staff as required to establish knowledge and awareness of engineering and safety pillars such as Management of Change and Process Safety Management.
Integrating the QMS to strongly support Research & Development, Operations, Customer Service, Sales, and Marketing functions in the achievement of overall customer satisfaction objectives.
Promoting and integrating a quality of culture environment within the leadership team and manufacturing site.
Serving as owner for non-conforming inventory, including the Standard Operating Procedures, Timelines, Disposition, and Communication of Rework / Scrap.
Facilitating, leading and/or participating in continuous improvement activities to achieve business objectives.
Executing assigned continuous improvement projects, while identifying projects that may lead to better processes, quality, and savings.
Overseeing the effectiveness of the Corrective & Preventive Action program, inclusive of all activities, related to the design, materials, and manufacture of product.
Dispositioning non-conforming product in a balanced manner, protecting both the interests of the customer and the organization.
Resolving customer complaints and claims effectively and timely while analyzing and reporting claims activity in a manner which supports the continuous improvement efforts of the organization, including CAPAs / 8Ds.
Training and coaching individuals on Root Cause Problem Solving methodologies and stressing root cause elimination or engineered solutions over administrative solutions.
Reporting of quality key performance and associated metrics accurately and timely, including supplier performance, internal and external non-conformances, etc.
Validating, testing, and confirming release specifications for production material in alignment with market requirements and technical data sheets.
Ensuring stable and predictable performance of measurement systems through established Measurement System Analysis methodologies.
Maintaining control and reporting systems for the performance of vendor supplied materials, including vendor performance analysis, specifications and problem resolution.
In conjunction with Operations, establishing and maintaining the system of production and process control to include quality assurance, quality control and quality improvement initiatives.
Managing the testing laboratory, equipment, and technical staff, where applicable.
Managing the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certification-related activities for the manufacturing site, where applicable.

Physical Requirements:
Works in an office and manufacturing environment; time is split sitting at a desk and walking the shop floor.
Flexible hours may be required to accommodate meetings, trainings, etc. for evening shifts.
Prescribed personal protective equipment (PPE) is mandatory in all laboratory and manufacturing areas.
