Job Description:

Chewy is seeking a Manager, Perishable Food Safety Program Manager, to support the continued growth of our Perishables Fulfillment Network! The Perishables Food Safety Program Manager will be responsible for partnering with the Perishables Site Operations team, Inventory Control, Learning, Quality, and Facility teams to manage the perishable network food safety programs. They will support the implementation, maintenance, and improvement of the food safety programs in the perishable space by providing technical leadership for pest control, sanitation, good distribution practices, temperature control, sanitary transportation and other facets of title 21 of the code of federal regulations. This role will work cross functionally to perform risk assessments and provide guidance on corrective measures.  Does this sound like you? If so, we want you to apply today!

What You'll Do:  

  • Lead all aspects of the Temperature Control program across the Perishables Fulfillment Network.
  • Identify, initiate, and propose closure of corrective actions taken.  
  • Provide input for preventive and corrective actions.  
  • Provide technical mentorship on sanitation, temperature regulation, hygienic transport, and good distribution practices.   
  • Conduct risk assessments for new and/or proposed activities, equipment, and products in and around the freezer.
  • Build SOPs and educational materials for ongoing food safety awareness and compliance.
  • Conduct internal audits of freezers to ensure food safety standards are met.
  • Investigate customer complaints and food safety incidents.
  • Keep food safety documentation and records accurate and timely as required by company policy and regulatory standards.
  • Track important metrics related to food safety performance and report findings to senior leadership.
  • Collaborate with category management, supply chain, quality, and operations teams to uphold cold chain integrity and safe food handling practices.
  • Develop, implement, and maintain food safety systems (e.g., HACCP, GMPs, SSOPs) for perishable items.
  • Identify, evaluate, and procure appropriate food safety equipment to support network-wide initiatives and ensure compliance with regulatory standards 
  • Conduct proactive and reactive food safety risk assessments across the supply chain, including evaluation of new products, processes, suppliers, and equipment 
  • Stay up to date on emerging risks, regulatory changes, and standard methodologies in food safety and communicate these effectively to teams.

What You'll Need:  

  • BS or equivalent experience in Chemistry, Biology, Food Safety, Food Science, Environmental Engineering
  • Advanced MS or equivalent experience in Chemistry, Biology, Food Safety, Food Science, Environmental Engineering is preferred  
  • Minimum of 5+ years in Managing Food Safety Programs in distribution, warehousing, cold storage and/or manufacturing setting.  
  • Must be PCQI certified.
  • Extensive knowledge of FDA regulations and how to apply them, specifically 21 CFR, 502, 117, and 1 specifically subpart O.  
  • Comprehension and practical application of risk assessments.  
  • Proficiency in data collection and management software (Excel, Tableau, SQL etc.).
  • Strong communication, teamwork, analysis, judgement, customer focus, and vendor focus skills.  
  • Ability to analyze and verify record data, implement and monitor corrective measures, and to perform a hazard analysis of both commodity types and processes.  
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently under pressure while managing competing demands and tight deadlines.  
  • Experience leading change in multiple site environments.  
  • Must be willing to travel up to 50%  

 

 

The hourly range for this role is $43.75 - $69.71.

Non-exempt hourly team members accrue paid time off (PTO) subject to manager approval.
