Summary:
Responsibilities:
Develops staff time schedule generally 3 months in advance providing adequate daily staffing availability.
Verifies time and attendance biweekly.
Assists with direct patient care as required.
Utilizes staff efficiently.
Generally staffs on an as needed basis and take call as needed.
Daily staff assignments are made according to needs.
Staff time schedules are posted in a timely manner.
Obtains lab results, radiology reports, EKG's, H&P as required for chart.
Requests presence of radiology technicians, pathologist or other surgeon if required.
Obtains instrumentation and/or other supplies from other areas as required.
Checks patient ID band.
Has good working relationship with surgeon's.
Communicates with other nursing units to coordinate smooth patient flow.
Essential personnel are notified as required.
Excellent interdepartmental rapport enhances cohesive and integrated delivery of high quality patient care.
Ensures staff adhere to hospital and department policies and procedures.
Maintains enough flexibility in staffing to accommodate changes in scheduling as need arises.
Monitor adherence to safety and infection control policies.
Promote turnover of patient readiness rooms and recovery bays.
Monitors staff competencies through observation of performances.
Staff members perform efficiently and confidently, according to competency levels.
All personnel observe hospital and department policies and procedures as well as safety and infection control policies.
Reports any defective equipment to appropriate department.
Request loaner equipment through clinical engineering as necessary.
Obtains instrumentation when needed.
Maintains latest knowledge of equipment and instruments.
Instrumentation will be readily available and in proper working order.
Equipment will function appropriately.
Equipment shall have proper clinical inspection labels.
Schedules in-services on all new instrumentation and equipment.
Participates with in-house and community educational programs.
Coordinates placement of students for their educational benefit.
Plan and lead monthly staff meetings.
Review procedure manual.
Delegates additional responsibility to staff as required.
In-services of all instrumentation and equipment are provided.
Monthly in-services are scheduled in advance.
All required in-services and certifications are current.
Staff meetings are held monthly.
Procedure and policy manuals are current.
Provides staff performance evaluations and counseling as required. Acts as a resource person.
Prepares annual budget. Manages conflict in staff members.
Conducts self in a competent and professional manner.
Assigns CQI responsibility to staff members.
Enhances ability of staff to problem solve and trouble shoot as necessary.
Competency and professionalism are reflected through the many responsibilities of supervision.
Performance evaluation counseling and conflict resolution are communicated skillfully.
Budget analysis requires constant monitoring.
Responsibilities of OR Director require occasional limited assumption.
Knowledge of essential resources.
Remains abreast of current nursing trends in conjunction with health care.
Researches current trends to arrange in-services for staff.
Subscribes to nursing, management and surgical journals/periodicals.
Attends Department of Surgery meeting to facilitate positive relationships with surgical staff.
Professional development is an ongoing process.
Awareness of current nursing and health care trends should remain a primary focus.
Current licensure is maintained.
Good working relationship with surgeons promotes positive image of SURGICAL SERVICES.
