What We Offer:

The Manager, Patient Throughput and Logistical Center (PTLC) provides regional leadership for patient access, transfer operations, capacity management, and referral optimization across the Novant Health Coastal Region. This role oversees daily operations of the Patient Throughput and Logistics Center while advancing a strategic, data-driven vision aligned with Novant Health’s growth, quality, and access priorities.

 

Partnering closely with the Director and Medical Director, this position plays a critical role in long‑range planning, enterprise integration, administrative reporting, and continuous performance improvement. The Manager serves as a forward-facing leader to hospital and physician leaders, service line administrators, and external referral partners, ensuring that transfer and placement operations support market expansion, service line development, regulatory compliance, and patient-centered outcomes. This is a high‑visibility, regional leadership role that blends strategic influence with operational accountability.

  • Education: 4 Year / Bachelors Degree, required. Bachelors Degree in Nursing, required. Graduate Degree, preferred.
  • Experience:
    • Minimum of 3 years of progressive leadership experience in hospital operations, patient throughput, transfer center operations, or system access/capacity management.
    • Demonstrated experience partnering with hospital executives, physician leaders, and senior operational leadership.
    • Experience in multi‑hospital or regional health system environments is strongly preferred.
    • Strong experience in operational leadership within health care environment
    • LEAN methodology training
  • Licensure/Certification:
    • Current RN licensure in appropriate state, required.
    • NC state approved curricula for restrictive interventions (facility specific) within 3 months of hire for Emergency Departments and Behavioral Health units, required.
    • Board certification in area of practice, preferred.
  • Additional Skills (required): Understands and applies: current and future trends/practice in area of responsibility; regulatory and governing standards, policies and procedures; information systems and software used in area of responsibility; equipment used in performing assigned duties; application of safety and infection control policies and procedures; skills in interviewing and selection process; understanding of budgeting, staffing, payroll and purchasing processes; implementation of competency, feedback, development and progressive discipline processes; teambuilding, conflict management, and interpersonal relationship skills; principles of adult learning and teaching methods/models; decision making, project leadership and consultation, delegation and communication skills; customer needs and expectations and knowledge for improvement to exceed customer expectations; principles of change management.
What You'll Do:
  • Design, evaluate, and refine models for patient placement, bed utilization, and level-of-care alignment across multiple acute care facilities.
  • Drive standardization of transfer workflows to ensure consistency, scalability, and regulatory compliance.
  • Identify opportunities to optimize inter‑facility transfers and balance patient volume across the Coastal Region.
  • Partner with throughput leaders, nursing leadership, physicians, and clinical operations leaders to improve patient flow and reduce access constraints.
  • Translate operational and market data into actionable strategic recommendations for:
  • Support annual strategic planning cycles through forecasting, modeling, and benchmarking.
  • Partner with the Director of Nursing and Medical Director to develop and execute the regional strategy for patient throughput, logistics, and transfer operations.
  • Align patient access and transfer strategies with system growth initiatives, service line expansion, and market development priorities.
  • Serve as regional liaison to hospital leaders, and operational stakeholders regarding access, capacity, and referral optimization.
  • Represent the Patient Throughput and Logistics Center on executive committees, system forums, and transformation initiatives.
  • Support development and governance of regional policies and standards for patient placement and transfer practices
