Job Requirements

POSITION SUMMARY

The Manager of Patient Safety, under the direction of the Director of Quality and Safety, manages and supports the planning, implementing, and coordinating of patient safety performance improvement initiatives such as but no limited to; event management, safety rounds, infection prevention coordination, and partnership with risk management, across the Health First Integrated Delivery Networks (IDN) Community Health Services (CHS) division. The Manager of Patient Safety partners with clinical and operational leadership teams to drive and cultivate the advancement of outcomes, decrease care variation occurrences, and support.

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Leads and coordinates patient safety event intake, investigation support, and follow-ups in partnership with risk management, across CHS.
  • Manages the monitorization and trend safety events and near misses; supporting action plans to mitigate recurrence of events; verifies timely escalation and documentation of potential or active patient safety concerns.
  • Collaborates with clinical and operational leadership teams to address safety risks and reliability issues, ensuring to establish safeguards for reducing the likelihood of an event occurrence.
  • Identifies and works to resolve unwarranted patient safety risks, by presenting opportunities for improvement, ensuring to facilitate and support the implementation of corrective actions.
  • Manages and supports the coordination of root cause analysis and learning processes.
  • Partners with clinical quality, clinical education, clinical risk management and patient experience leadership teams to drive integrated improvement across CHS in workflow processes.
  • Ensures continuous maintained awareness of applicable safety and regulatory requirements, staying abreast with any changes in local, state, federal, or regulatory changes in standards and regulations.
  • Serves as a resource for CHS stakeholders, delivering guidance and consultation to clinical and operational leaders on patient safety improvement strategies.
  • Provides leadership and supports for patient safety education and communication of initiatives across CHS; tracks performance improvement plans, ensuring to drive sustained improvement across all CHS patient safety improvement initiatives.

Work Experience

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Bachelors degree in Nursing (BSN).
  • Work Experience: Three (3) years experience in clinical safety, or risk.
  • Licensure: Registered Nurse (RN) licensure in the State of Florida.
  • Certification: None
  • Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:
  • Knowledge and understanding of Centers of Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), Federal Medicare program, Medicaid and medical insurance industry in general.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional/legal/medical documents, policies and procedures, government regulations, legislative issues, and legal documents.
  • Demonstrated expertise in accurately assessing evaluation and management documentation and coding.
  • Knowledge of CMS billing and documentation rules for DRGs, APCs, and CPTs coding.
  • Demonstrates decision making, analyzing and interpreting complex data/information, researching.
  • and preparing reports to present to leadership, monitoring patient safety control standards, organizing and coordinating multiple initiatives independently. organizational, verbal, written, analytical and problem solving skills.
  • Demonstrates effectiveness to communicate with management and healthcare practitioners.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) presentation.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education: Masters degree in Nursing (MSN), or a relevant field.
  • Work Experience: Ambulatory or medical group patient safety or risk management experience.
  • Certification: Certified Professional In Healthcare Quality, or a similar quality certification.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Majority of time involves sitting or standing; occasional walking, bending, and stooping.
  • Long periods of computer time or at workstation.
  • Light work that may include lifting or moving objects up to 20 pounds with or without assistance.
  • May be exposed to inside environments with varied temperatures, air quality, lighting and/or low to moderate noise.
  • Communicating with others to exchange information.
  • Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform tasks.
  • Workspace may vary from open to confined.
  • May require travel to various facilities within and beyond county perimeter; may require use of personal vehicle.
