Job Summary and Qualifications

Position Summary

The Manager of Order Set Operations is responsible for the operational support, sustainment, and optimization of Meditech Expanse order set content across live hospital facilities, aligned to the enterprise Central Order Set Strategy. This role ensures the stability, accuracy, and usability of standardized order set content through effective break/fix management, controlled content updates, and strong governance practices.

Reporting to the Director of Expanse Provider Operations, this leader manages a team of analysts and leads who support order set content maintenance, issue resolution, and ongoing optimization. The role partners closely with clinical leadership, informatics, governance councils, and shared service teams to ensure order sets remain clinically appropriate, standardized, and operationally effective while minimizing variation and disruption to patient care.

The ideal candidate brings strong people leadership, deep understanding of clinical workflows, and hands-on experience supporting live EMR clinical content in a high-availability healthcare environment.

Major Responsibilities:

Order Set Operations & Sustainment

  • Own day-to-day operational support for Meditech Expanse order sets across assigned live facilities.
  • Ensure stability and reliability of standardized order set content aligned to the Central Order Set Strategy.
  • Oversee intake, triage, prioritization, and resolution of order set break/fix requests.
  • Ensure timely resolution of user-impacting content issues affecting patient care, workflow, or compliance.
  • Provide regular operational reporting on break/fix volume, resolution timelines, and trends.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline order set operations, reduce variation, and improve usability.

Content Change & Break/Fix Management

  • Establish and manage standardized processes for order set issue intake, assessment, and resolution.
  • Support governance councils with data, impact assessments, and operational recommendations.
  • Balance enterprise standardization with necessary regulatory, safety, or operational requirements.
  • Differentiate break/fix, minor updates, and enhancement requests to ensure appropriate routing and governance.
  • Partner with clinical informatics, governance bodies, and shared services to implement approved content changes.
  • Ensure content updates are tested, validated, and communicated prior to release.

Team Leadership & Development

  • Directly manage Leads and Analysts supporting order set operations and content maintenance.
  • Ensure appropriate staffing, coverage, and skill alignment to meet ongoing operational demands.
  • Develop team members through coaching, mentoring, and performance management.
  • Foster a culture of accountability, clinical partnership, and continuous improvement.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Strong experience supporting live EMR clinical content in a healthcare environment.
  • Hands-on experience with Meditech Expanse order sets strongly preferred.
  • Understanding of clinical workflows, order management, and pharmacy integration.
  • Proven ability to manage break/fix workflows and operational escalations.
  • Experience working within clinical governance and content standardization models.
  • Strong people leadership and team development skills.
  • Ability to navigate complex, matrixed organizations.
  • Excellent communication skills with clinical and executive stakeholders.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree Required
  • Master's degree Business Administration Preferred
  • 3+ years of experience in managing a team and partnering with peer leaders Preferred
  • 5+ years of experience in working healthcare, IT, people management Preferred
  • 1+ year(s) of experience in Meditech Expanse or like EMR solution Preferred
  • Or equivalent combination of education and/or experience
