This position leads the engineering and technical functions responsible for designing power packages and solutions for OEM customers.
Position Duties/Responsibilities
Primary Responsibilities:
Plan, manage and coordinate all aspects OEM engineering disciplines, including but not limited to: new power package designs, vendor approvals, engineering change management, validations, and application engineering approvals
Manages day to day productivity of Engineering team.
Provides technical and application support with respect to Caterpillar and other power products for customers, contractors, salesmen, and the parts and service departments.
Evaluate, prioritize, and implement project work plans for the OEM business in order to optimize customer satisfaction and company profitability
Manages a close working relationship with Caterpillar and other engine suppliers in support of power systems to achieve customer satisfaction and cost containment
Supports post-sale customer satisfaction and continuous improvement efforts to improve designs and customer solutions
Manage new product introduction process including multifunctional stage-gate review process and engineering change disciplines. Also responsible for application engineering, installation audit, as well as initial quality reliability and durability testing
As needed support other functional groups within the organization with mechanical design, and / or professional engineering consultancy
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Leads engineering function and team of engineers, designers and support personnel within the OEM segment (power packaging business). Responsible for the execution and interpretation of policies and for the successful operation of assigned units. Has authority for hiring and disciplining employees. May be responsible for directing the work of first-line supervisors.
Position Requirements
Required:
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent education
10 + years or more of experience in reciprocating engine technologies and applications, including mechanical and electrical systems design
Previous experience as an Engineering Manager with new product introduction responsibilities or equivalent experience
Preferred:
Master’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent education and experience
Current Professional Engineer License
5+ years of experience or the equivalent in engineering design, project management, and/or customer support - preferably in the engine power industry, particularly with Caterpillar or similar OEM
7 years or more of experience in application and installation of engine power products

Knowledge of engine mounted and remote engine cooling systems
Knowledge of engine starting systems, battery and air
Understanding of engine exhaust systems, limitations and requirements
Knowledge of engine exhaust emissions and catalyst requirements
Ability to produce electronic submittals
Ability to build and maintain effective customer and professional relationships through strong interpersonal skills with emphasis on relationship-building and consistent demonstration of solid professional judgement.

Advanced computer skills, including experience using Microsoft Office software, as Word and Excel, AutoCAD, data base systems and the ability to operate CAT PC and Main Frame Programs

New product introduction (NPI) and engineering change notification (ECN) disciplines
Applied knowledge of safety requirements in environment of engines and power systems

Works under limited supervision. Independently determines the approach to take and the methods to use. Interprets policy in terms of objectives. Informs manager of unusual situations with far reaching implications.
