Description:

POSITION PURPOSE

Manager opportunity at Trinity Health Oakland (Pontiac) leading teams totaling 15+ FTEs of Lab Services Assistants in our Outreach and Inpatient Lab Support departments.

REQUIRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE

Education

  • Bachelor's, technical or business school degree or equivalent combination of post-secondary education and experience.

  • Three or more years of progressively more responsible experience in the laboratory

  • One year of leadership experience required

Skills/Knowledge

  • Interpersonal skills necessary to communicate with physicians, nursing unit staff, clients, Laboratory and Health System personnel.

  • Demonstrated organizational and analytical skills necessary to develop section procedures, and resolve problems.

  • Work process improvement skills

  • Excellent leadership skills necessary to manage staff, resolve conflicts and solve problems.

  • Ability to foster an environment that promotes teamwork, client focus and continuous quality improvement.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Develops current to intermediate (1-2 year) goals and measures for a function, area or process within the context of longer-range goals. Measures and assesses performance towards each goal.

  • Manages the daily functions of the department/area. Provides or analyzes trends to identify issues and make recommendations.

  • Prioritizes work and assigns tasks to department/area associates.

  • Interprets, applies and promotes consistent application of hospital/department policies and monitors compliance.

  • Assists in developing or implementing improvement methodologies or programs (e.g., six sigma, continuous improvement, etc.) as appropriate.

  • Assists in policy development, revision, interpretation and drafting/defining policy provisions in collaboration with higher-level management inputs, goals, direction and objectives. Develops budget for area of responsibility, approves individual budgets for subordinate functions/areas.

  • Assists in leading or participates in initiatives to improve productivity, resource management and operating efficiency.

  • Actively manages workflow, resources and progress against milestones or deadlines to ensure deliverables.

  • Effectively works with vendor personnel, monitors performance for functional areas or service and provides input into monitoring and assessment of vendor performance and remediation of issues.

  • Responsible for identifying quality issues. Accountable for improving outcomes in collaboration with the department Director.

  • Works closely with Laboratory Marketing staff to provide customer service that meets and exceeds customer expectations.

  • Travels to offsite phlebotomy locations regularly to communicate with employees and ensure that customer service standards are maintained. (OP Phlebotomy)

  • Contacts patients concerning major patient relations issues.

  • Ensures that timely additions and changes to the physician client file are made and that items on the daily revenue error reports are corrected and staff is trained to avoid systematic errors in the future. (Laboratory Office)
