Overview

This position provides management level leadership and support related to the portfolio of Distribution capital projects including strategy and development of project management, reporting and related processes. This includes oversight and coordination of all phases of a project from inception to closeout to ensure that all schedule and financial goals are met. The position provides formal supervision of project management staff, including contracted services.

Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements strategies for the effective management of project portfolio including estimating, budgeting, planning, scheduling, reporting and related processes.

Supervises Project Management Office (PMO) staff, including assignments, development, and performance management.

  • Responsible for supporting the development of the 5-year business plan to address capital needs for distribution LOB.
  • Oversee the development and execution of project work plans, manages project changes, and resolves project problems to ensure project schedule is maintained.
  • Monitors the financial performance of the distribution portfolio of projects and recommends adjustments to the work plan in order to meet the target.
  • Manages interface with contractors to communicate expectations and incorporate their feedback into the project update.
  • Achieves effective project portfolio execution and inter-departmental coordination and planning through regular communication, project meetings and reports.
  • Manages coordination and communication of project status and changes with stakeholders.
  • Manages development of project cost estimates, cash flows, forecast, and schedule for the capital plan and budget.
  • Develops and implements strategies to mitigate project contingencies and risks.
  • Performs analysis and recommendations to support resource allocation decisions.
  • Establishes strong internal controls to ensure accuracy and consistency of project portfolio reporting.
  • Responsible for development of standards for internal project management processes and procedures.

Qualifications

Required Education

Bachelor of Science degree in engineering, business, or related project management discipline.

Required Experience

  • 8+ years job-related industry experience
  • Must have strong leadership, project management and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Project Management Certification.
  • Working knowledge of industry transmission, distribution, and generation systems, including economic and engineering principles regarding interconnections with neighboring utilities.
  • Ability to understand complex analytical measurement systems and the application of various types of technologies.
  • Understanding of utility substation and lines engineering and construction practices.
