Position Summary:
Responsible for the development, advancement, and evaluation of a comprehensive regional trauma system for The University of Tennessee Medical Center, East Tennessee, and surrounding regions. Provides leadership and oversight for trauma program operations, clinical initiatives, education, research activities, outreach efforts, and regulatory compliance.
Trauma Program Leadership
Provides strategic and operational leadership for the Trauma Program.
Collaborates with Trauma Medical Directors, physicians, nursing leaders, and multidisciplinary teams to advance trauma care initiatives.
Supports organizational goals, mission, vision, and values through effective leadership and program management.
Serves as a liaison between trauma services and internal/external stakeholders.
Trauma Operations & Clinical Oversight
Coordinates trauma care processes across departments and service lines.
Assists with development, implementation, and evaluation of trauma protocols and standards of care.
Participates in patient care review activities and identifies opportunities for improvement.
Collaborates with trauma physicians and clinical teams to ensure high-quality patient outcomes.
Supports performance improvement initiatives and trauma quality programs.
Trauma Program Development & Regulatory Compliance
Maintains compliance with state, regional, and national trauma program requirements.
Assists in preparation for trauma verification and accreditation activities.
Monitors trauma program performance metrics and outcomes.
Participates in strategic planning and program growth initiatives.
Outreach & Community Engagement
Develops and maintains relationships with referring facilities, EMS agencies, and community partners.
Coordinates educational outreach activities to support regional trauma system development.
Facilitates communication and feedback between referring organizations and Trauma Services.
Supports public awareness initiatives and trauma prevention efforts.
Education & Research
Coordinates trauma-related educational programs for internal and external audiences.
Supports multidisciplinary trauma conferences and educational symposiums.
Participates in research initiatives, data collection, and program evaluation activities.
Assists with grant preparation and research-related projects as assigned.
Quality Improvement & Performance Improvement
Collaborates with the Trauma Quality Improvement team to identify opportunities for improvement.
Reviews trauma-related clinical data and outcomes.
Assists in development and implementation of corrective action plans when opportunities are identified.
Promotes evidence-based practice and continuous improvement.
Financial & Operational Management
Assists with monitoring operational and programmatic performance.
Supports efficient utilization of resources within Trauma Services.
Participates in budget planning and operational decision-making as appropriate.
Evaluates opportunities to improve efficiency and effectiveness of trauma program operations.
Professional Development
Maintains clinical and professional knowledge through continuing education.
Participates in professional organizations and trauma-related educational opportunities.
Maintains required certifications and licensure.
Position Qualification:
Education
Bachelor's Degree in Nursing or related healthcare field required.
Master's Degree preferred.
Experience
Three (3) to five (5) years of trauma, critical care, emergency, or related clinical experience required.
Previous leadership, program management, or performance improvement experience preferred.
Licensure & Certifications
Current Tennessee Registered Nurse license required.
ACLS certification required.
TNCC, CEN, CCRN, or other trauma-related certifications preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Knowledge of trauma systems, trauma program standards, and regulatory requirements.
Strong leadership, organizational, and project management skills.
Ability to analyze clinical and operational data.
Effective communication and relationship-building skills.
Experience collaborating with physicians, nursing leaders, EMS agencies, and community partners.
Ability to lead multidisciplinary initiatives and drive performance improvement.
