This is a high-impact role for a technically deep and collaborative professional who thrives in a complex, fast-paced development environment and is passionate about shaping the future of grid interconnection in the Northeast.

Key Responsibilities

Interconnection Queue Leadership

  • Manage projects through all interconnection study phases, including cluster studies, System Impact Studies (SIS), Facilities Studies, Affected System Studies, Surplus and Material Modification Assessments
  • Lead execution of Large Generator Interconnection Agreements (LGIAs), Interconnection Service Agreements (ISAs), and transmission service agreements, including amendments and surplus interconnection requests
  • Coordinate directly with RTO/ISO staff, Transmission Owners, and external counsel to advance and protect the project portfolio through the interconnection queue
  • Oversee compliance obligations under applicable RTO manuals and NERC reliability standards

Technical Analysis & Grid Planning

  • Direct and perform prospecting interconnection analyses and transmission feasibility assessments to evaluate project siting, grid impacts and cost estimates
  • Oversee or conduct steady-state thermal/voltage, short-circuit, and transient stability studies using industry-standard tools including PSS/E, PowerGEM TARA, PowerWorld, ASPEN, and DSATools
  • Assess curtailment risk, congestion exposure, LMP basis, and network upgrade exposure to inform siting and investment decisions
  • Identify optimal interconnection points and transmission solutions across a multi-GW development pipeline

Strategic & Commercial Support

  • Provide technical leadership for early-stage project development, including siting analysis, transmission feasibility, and interconnection strategy across the Northeast
  • Lead technical diligence for M&A and acquisition targets, assessing interconnection viability, upgrade exposure, capacity interconnection rights, and portfolio risk
  • Develop and execute strategies for portfolio optimization, including surplus interconnection rights, capacity transfer rights, and participation in RTO reliability initiatives
  • Monitor and interpret RTO/ISO market developments, FERC policy, transmission planning activities (e.g., RTEP), and regulatory changes to proactively influence inform project and corporate strategy
  • Represent NextEra Energy in RTO/ISO stakeholder committees and working groups, actively shaping market rules and interconnection policy

Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Collaborate with a team of interconnection analysts and engineers and foster technical excellence and professional growth
  • Partner with development, engineering, origination, finance, legal, and regulatory teams to advance projects and support investment decisions
  • Prepare and present technical findings, strategic recommendations, and portfolio updates to senior leadership and external stakeholders
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with RTO/ISO staff, Transmission Owners, consultants, and industry partners
  • Identify and implement process improvements to optimize interconnection outcomes, reduce development risk, and improve project economics

The Ideal Candidate will have:

  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or closely related field
  • 7+ years of progressive experience in generation interconnection, transmission planning, or transmission services development
  • Deep knowledge of PJM, NYISO, and/or ISO-NE interconnection protocols, tariff provisions, and study methodologies (e.g., PJM Manuals 14A-14H, NYISO Attachment HH)
  • Direct experience managing interconnection applications, queue positions, and agreement negotiations within one or more Northeast RTOs
  • Proven ability to review, validate, and interpret interconnection study results, network upgrade requirements, and cost allocation
  • Strong understanding of NERC reliability standards and their application to generator interconnection
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complex technical topics clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences, including senior leadership

Technical Skills

  • Proficiency with power system modeling and analysis tools: PSS/E, PowerGEM TARA, ASPEN, PowerWorld
  • Expertise in steady-state thermal/voltage analysis, short-circuit analysis, and transient stability
  • Experience with transmission injection studies, feasibility screening, and prospecting analytics
