Multi-Site: Maumee, OH / Franklin, OH

 

Job Summary

 

The EHS Program Manager is responsible for overseeing and ensuring compliance with environmental, health, and safety programs at the Maumee and Franklin, OH, facilities. The position will require on-site presence at each of these locations (80%) with the ability to work hybrid remote (20%). This role supports continuous improvement and ensures employee safety, operational regulatory compliance, and the implementation of sustainable practices within the organization. The EHS program manager will need to interact with Site Management daily. A candidate should have excellent project management and organizational skills as well as strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

 

This position is expected to align safety procedures and operational expectations with industry standards and best practices, proactively identifying risks or deficiencies and implementing solutions and corrective actions to maintain a safe work environment.

 

The position requires environmental focus at each site, managing the regulatory requirements, including site permit compliance and reporting requirements. The manager will monitor and assess environmental risks and develop strategies to mitigate and minimize them. The manager will coordinate with regulatory agencies, stakeholders, vendors, Corporate EHS, and manage external consultants and contractors while maintaining necessary permits and approvals.

 

Successful performance in this role results in well-managed safety and environmental programs and compliance with each site’s regulatory requirements.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Ensure all environmental and safety compliance requirements are met at the sites.
  • Implement and adapt corporate applicable EHS policies and procedures to meet site-specific requirements to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
  • Monitor and assess environmental, health, and safety risks and develop strategies to mitigate and minimize them.
  • Develop and implement EHS Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) for each site and ensure effectiveness. The KPIs shall be in alignment with the overall corporate KPIs established.
  • Manage the site's waste programs, including spill or remediation projects, waste reduction efforts, and reuse or recycling practices.
  • Manage environmental sustainability data in Sun Chemical’s information database.
  • Facilitate or develop training as needed. Provide employee coaching or guidance as needed.
  • Manage incident and spill investigations and assist in implementing corrective actions.
  • Manage stormwater permit compliance, including items such as visual assessments, inspections, annual reporting, and maintaining current Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans.
  • Prepare reports for compliance with Tier II and TRI regulations.
  • Ensure potential to emit air contaminants calculations are maintained.
  • Maintain OSHA logs, prepare monthly and quarterly safety statistics.
  • Recommend safety improvements, implement ergonomic solutions, conduct hazard assessments, and participate in Management of Change reviews.
  • Manage industrial hygiene programs, including air sampling and noise dosimetry. Coordinate medical monitoring and workers’ compensation programs.
  • Conduct regular safety walkthroughs/ audits, and ensure corrective actions are implemented and sustained.  Prepare and participate in scheduled corporate audits.  Provide follow-up action item completion and tracking. 
  • Chair safety committees and promote safety awareness across all facilities.  Act as a resource to site employees, addressing health and safety concerns on the plant floor.
  • Represent the site with regulatory and external agencies.
  • Perform other projects as assigned.

 

Managerial Impact

 

This role supports multiple facilities: Maumee / Franklin, OH. Estimated weekly travel breakdown:

 

  • Maumee: 40% (2 days/week)
  • Franklin: 40% (2 days/week)
  • Hybrid Remote: 20% (1 day/week)

 

 

Education and Experience

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in EHS-related discipline, Environmental Science, Environmental Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering or a related field.
    • EHS-related certifications are a plus.
  • Minimum of five years’ experience in an EHS role, preferably in the specialty chemical manufacturing industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of environmental regulations, including, but not limited to, water quality, hazardous waste management, air quality, and pollution prevention. Experience with DHS compliance is preferred, but not required.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Solid understanding of federal, state, and local safety and environmental regulations, including EPA and OSHA standards, along with sustainable practices and the ability to implement them within the organization.
  • Effective communication, both verbal and written, and interpersonal skills to collaborate with internal teams, regulatory agencies, and stakeholders. 
  • Proficient in technical writing and data analysis.
  • Strong analytical, project management, organization, and problem-solving skills. 
  • Highly organized with strong administrative capabilities.
  • Able to manage confidential information with discretion.
  • Ability to work independently, make sound decisions, and travel between Maumee, OH, and Franklin, OH on a routine basis.
