Indiana University Health is seeking individuals who embody these values to join our Department of Public Safety team in the role of Manager-Deputy Chief of Police.

As a senior command staff member, the Deputy Chief works closely with the Chief to manage and direct the duties, responsibilities, and operations of the Department of Public Safety. In this role, they oversee personnel matters, planning and research, agency financial management, and budget preparation, while performing complex administrative work to direct the operational activities of regional DPS departments. Additionally, the Deputy Chief participates in recruiting and hiring new team members, collaborates with key internal and external stakeholders, and assumes full command of all activities in the absence of the Chief.

Reports to: Director-Chief of Police

Candidate Qualifications

Candidates for the position will be evaluated according to the following criteria and competencies.

  • Associate's Degree is required.

  • Requires 5-7 years of relevant experience.

  • Comprehensive background in supervision required.

  • Requires previous successful completion of the Indiana Law Enforcement Academy Tier I or Tier II training or equivalent.

  • Requires current non-restricted Indiana Driver's License.

  • Requires knowledge of computers and various software programs.

  • Must be able to pass a pre-employment background investigation, drug screening and psychological exam.

  • Requires successful completion of Firearms Proficiency Test with continuous requalification on a semi-annual basis.

  • Must be able to obtain NCIC/IDACS access.

  • Have never had law enforcement officer license denied by final order or revoked.

  • Not currently on suspension or have a voluntary surrender of a law enforcement license currently in effect.
