Overview:

Help create a safer healthcare environment by leading patient safety investigations, reducing organizational risk, and driving quality improvement initiatives across UF Health Jacksonville.

 

Work Style: Onsite at Pro Park
Location: Gainesville, FL 
FTE: Full-Time (1.0 FTE)
Schedule: Monday – Friday

 

The Clinical Risk Manager participates in pro-active risk assessments; plans, organizes and implements clinical risk management strategies for the UF Health Shands Clinical Risk Management (CRM) Program, with the objective of preventing adverse events for patients and minimizing loss to the organization

Responsibilities:

Key Responsibilities

• Investigate patient safety events to determine severity, potential harm, and reportability in accordance with regulatory, accreditation, and risk management standards.

• Conduct Root Cause Analyses (RCAs), event investigations, and debriefings, while identifying opportunities for process improvement and sharing lessons learned.

• Develop, coordinate, and deliver clinical risk management, patient safety, and risk reduction education programs for staff and leadership.

• Collaborate with the Self Insurance Program (SIP), Claims, Legal, Quality, and Patient Safety teams regarding event investigations and risk mitigation strategies.

• Ensure implementation and follow-up of recommendations identified through event management activities, performance improvement initiatives, and corrective action plans.

• Conduct daily review, analysis, and trending of patient safety reports, adverse events, and near-miss occurrences.

• Analyze claims data, event reports, and operational trends to identify risk exposures and develop proactive risk reduction strategies.

• Participate in clinical quality, patient safety, and organizational performance improvement initiatives across the facility.

• Partner with clinical and operational leaders to promote a culture of safety and regulatory compliance.

• Monitor compliance with Joint Commission, CMS, AHCA, and other applicable regulatory and accreditation requirements.

Qualifications:

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Education
• Bachelor's degree in a clinical or healthcare-related field required.

 

Experience
• Minimum of two (2) years of experience in healthcare risk management, patient safety, process improvement, healthcare quality, or related activities within an acute care hospital setting required.

• Academic medical center and inpatient hospital experience preferred.

• Consideration may be given to candidates with an Associate degree in an acute care-based clinical discipline and a minimum of four (4) years of experience in healthcare risk management, patient safety, process improvement, or healthcare quality initiatives.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
• Demonstrated experience analyzing data, identifying trends, and developing recommendations based on findings.

• Strong leadership, facilitation, communication, and presentation skills, including experience presenting to executive leadership.

• Excellent interpersonal, collaboration, and negotiation skills.

• Strong problem-solving, critical thinking, and decision-making abilities.

• Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple priorities simultaneously.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

• Knowledge of healthcare risk management principles, patient safety practices, and quality improvement methodologies preferred.

• Knowledge of Joint Commission, CMS, AHCA, and other applicable regulatory and accreditation standards preferred.

• Knowledge of applicable federal, state, and local healthcare regulations, laws, and safety requirements preferred.
