Accountabilities / Responsibilities:
The Manager of Clinical Ancillary Services is responsible for the leadership, coordination, and operational oversight of Materials Management, the Sterile Processing Department (SPD), and Operating Room support staff, including Surgical Technicians and Orderlies. This role ensures safe, efficient, and high‑quality support services that directly contribute to optimal surgical outcomes and overall patient care.
The Manager collaborates closely with perioperative leadership, surgeons, anesthesia providers, and clinical teams to maintain regulatory compliance, streamline workflows, and support a high‑performing surgical environment.
Key Responsibilities
Leadership & Operations
- Provides daily leadership and direction for Materials Management, SPD, and OR support staff.
- Ensures departments operate efficiently, safely, and in alignment with facility policies and regulatory standards.
- Develops staffing schedules to ensure adequate coverage across all service areas.
- Maintains a professional, organized, and collaborative work environment.
- Oversees onboarding, training, competency validation, and ongoing development of team members.
- Monitors performance, provides coaching, and participates in corrective action processes as needed.
Sterile Processing Oversight
- Ensures all instruments and equipment are cleaned, disinfected, sterilized, and stored according to industry standards and manufacturer guidelines.
- Oversees compliance with sterilization documentation, biological and chemical indicator monitoring, and equipment maintenance.
- Ensures instrument sets are complete, functional, and available for scheduled and emergent cases.
- Maintains knowledge of sterilization methods, aseptic technique, and infection prevention standards.
- Ensures accurate and timely completion of logs, reports, and regulatory documentation.
Materials Management Oversight
- Manages receipt, storage, distribution, and inventory control of medical supplies, equipment, and rental items.
- Maintains appropriate inventory levels and prevents stockouts or overstocking.
- Conducts regular physical inventories and ensures accurate posting of supplies in/out of inventory systems.
- Ensures all supplies are checked for damage, expiration, and proper labeling.
- Maintains storage areas in compliance with safety, infection control, and accreditation standards.
Operating Room Support
- Ensures OR rooms are properly stocked, equipped, and prepared for daily schedules.
- Oversees case cart preparation, supply pulling, and coordination of equipment needs.
- Supports room turnover processes and assists clinical teams as needed.
- Facilitates communication between SPD, OR staff, and Materials Management to ensure smooth daily operations.
Compliance, Safety & Quality
- Ensures adherence to all regulatory, accreditation, and facility standards (e.g., AAMI, AORN, OSHA).
- Promotes safe work practices, proper body mechanics, and timely reporting of incidents.
- Ensures patient privacy and confidentiality are maintained at all times.
- Identifies operational issues and implements process improvements to enhance efficiency and quality.

Qualifications:
Required
- RN licensure or Certified Surgical Technologist (CST).
- High School Diploma or GED required, Associate Degree or higher preferred.
- Minimum 5 years of clinical experience in an OR setting.
- Demonstrated knowledge of OR equipment, sterile technique, and surgical workflows.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and leadership skills.
- Ability to maintain professionalism, flexibility, and reliability in a fast‑paced environment.
Preferred
- Previous management or supervisory experience.
- Sterile Processing certification (CRCST, CSPDT, or equivalent).
- Prior experience working in or managing an SPD.
- Experience in materials management or supply chain operations.
