Position Overview:

The CD&D Colors Manager is responsible for building, leading and scaling a high-impact color applications lab, serving as a key hub for customer engagement, technical development, and commercialization.

This role combines hands-on technical leadership with people and lab management, ensuring delivery of innovative, commercially viable color solutions across food and beverage applications.

The ideal candidate will establish the New Berlin lab as a center of excellence, driving strong collaboration with commercial teams and customers while developing a high-performing technical team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lab Build & Operational Leadership

  • Lead the setup, commissioning, and scaling of the New Berlin color applications lab

  • Define lab capabilities aligned to business priorities (equipment, methods, workflows)

  • Establish/Implement and maintain:

  • ADM safety, quality and compliance standards

  • Lab operating procedures and best practices

  • Efficient sample preparation and testing workflows

  • Ensure lab readiness to support customer trials and rapid prototyping

  • Team Leadership & Talent Development

  • Recruit, develop, and lead a high-performing team of application scientists and technicians

  • Set clear goals aligned to commercial priorities and innovation pipeline

  • Coach and mentor team members to build:

  • Technical depth in color applications

  • Strong customer-facing capabilities

  • Foster a collaborative, execution-focused culture.

  • Technical Leadership & Application Expertise

  • Serve as a technical leader in color application systems, supporting complex problem solving

  • Guide team in:

  • Experimental design and data interpretation

  • Troubleshooting stability and performance challenges

  • Translating color science into application solutions

  • Ensure strong technical rigor and consistency across all lab outputs

  • Customer Collaboration & Commercial Impact

  • Partner with commercial team and customers to support concept-to-commercialization

  • Lead or support key customer engagements, including:

  • Lab demonstrations

  • Plant trials

  • Technical presentations

  • Ensure delivery of fit-for-purpose, scalable solutions that drive win rates

  • Position the New Berlin lab as a customer-facing innovation hub.

  • Innovation & Portfolio Enablement

  • Align lab capabilities with strategic innovation priorities

  • Identify gaps and opportunities in color applications across key segments

  • Collaborate with global CD&D and R&D teams to:

  • Accelerate new product development

  • Improve performance of existing solutions

  • Support pipeline growth through technical differentiation

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Partner closely with:

  • Global CD&D teams

  • PD&A / application teams

  • Commercial and marketing teams

  • Ensure strong linkage between:

  • Lab output

  • Customer needs

  • Business growth priorities

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's, Master's or Ph.D. in Food Science, Chemistry, or related field.

  • 8-12+ years of experience in food or beverage applications, with strong experience in color systems

  • Proven experience in lab management &/or team leadership

  • Demonstrated success in customer-facing technical roles

  • Experience supporting commercialization and scale-up.

  • Deep knowledge of:

  • Color chemistry and stability mechanisms

  • Application systems across multiple food and beverage categories

  • Ingredient interactions and processing impacts

  • Experience with:

  • Pilot plant and lab-scale development

  • Translating lab work to commercial production

Base pay offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, including market location, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Hourly and salaried non-exempt employees will also be paid overtime pay when working qualifying overtime hours.

If hired, employees will be in an "at-will position" and the Company reserves the right to modify base pay (as well as any other discretionary payment or compensation program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, Company or individual department/team performance, and market factors.

The pay range for this position is expected to be between:

$94,500.00 - $176,500.00The total compensation package for this position will also include annual bonus and a long-term incentive plan
