Position Specific Description

Business Management is responsible for the overall performance of a portfolio of operating assets including the development and execution of plans to optimize financial performance of the assets. As the Manager of Business Management for the Northeast (ISO-NE, NYISO, PJM) and FRP (Florida Renewable Partners) assets, you will own the P&L accountability for this portion of our North region portfolio - leading a team and handling customer relationships, compliance with power purchase agreements, financing and regulatory requirements, and strategy. You will work with multiple cross-functional teams, including NextEra Energy Power Marketing, Power Generation Division, Accounting, Legal, NEER Development, and other Business Management teams. This role will also lead special projects to support further optimization of the existing assets and support development projects. The ideal candidate is a leader with strong market, commercial, financial, and project management skills who demonstrates effective communication and collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, and acts as a talent multiplier.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead and develop a team of Business Managers and Business Management Analysts, effectively setting direction, prioritizing work, providing coaching and holding team accountable for results
  • Responsible for P & L of asset portfolio
  • Develop and execute on strategic plans, effectively prioritizing and balancing day to day operations with longer term strategic outcomes.
  • Manage market risk and focus on value optimization strategies such as recontracting, repowers, hedging, etc.
  • Anticipates risks and downstream impacts and proactively develops mitigation strategies.
  • Responsible for effectively collaborating across internal project teams and external stakeholders to drive positive financial and commercial outcomes
  • Acts as the external-facing point of contact for existing offtakers, tasked with resolving commercial issues and maintaining healthy relationships
  • Involved in on-boarding of new assets and new contract negotiations to ensure financial success of the projects
  • Work with PGD to optimize wind / solar / storage total cost decisions on the fleet
  • Support project financing due diligence, extract compliance obligations, analyze and communicate financial impacts to leadership,
  • Lead financial and commercial analysis
  • Ad-hoc analysis as required.

Travel is expected to be approximately 10% of the time.

Job Overview

Leaders in this position support the overall P and L management of one or more NextEra generating assets that have achieved commercial operation. This role supports strategic decision-making with respect to such assets, including hedging, operations and maintenance. This role identifies opportunities and analyzes the impact on company financials to maximize P and L profitability.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manages a team responsible for improving the generating assets P and L, operations monitoring, development and assessment of value-added ideas to optimize asset performance and increase profitability
  • Reviews proposed budgets and monthly forecasts, financial analyses, ad hoc reports, and modeling
  • Ensures compliance with power purchase agreements, land leases, financings and regulatory requirements
  • Resolves issues across multiple assets and/or states and presents findings and results to all levels of management
  • Works with teams throughout the company in a manager or coordinator capacity
  • Maintains close working relationships with partners, customers and stakeholders
  • Recommends hedging strategies
  • Negotiates various commercial agreements
  • Leads or assists with value-added projects such as supporting regional leadership in the development of strategic plans, mergers and acquisitions, project development, asset optimization, restructurings and building relationships with off-takers, landowners, and state and local regulators
  • Trains and mentors team members
  • Performs other job-related duties as assigned

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelors Degree
  • Experience:8+ years

Preferred Qualifications

  • Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA)
  • Supervisor/Management Experience:1+ years
