Your Opportunity

Our goal on the Institutional Block Desk is to help advisors optimize their execution quality process. Best execution is defined as the process that captures the most value out of investment decisions, in a fair and equitable manner, for all clients supported. The Block Desk Trader role supports our strategy to create an integrated Execution and Guidance Solutions offering for Registered Investment Advisors (RIAs), that optimizes the trading management process and seeks best execution.

Our Block Desk helps RIAs assess potential benefits and risks while employing various execution strategies on relatively large and/or illiquid Equity and ETF trades with direct responsibility for developing a trade execution strategy, managing client expectations on illiquid orders and being the subject matter experts of our High Touch Execution service, this team plays a critical role in the end-to-end client experience.

The Block Desk Trader will be part of a collaborative, high-performing team responsible for designing and building an outstanding client experience through strategic initiatives, relationship management, and trade management process improvement. You will seek to mitigate the risk of market impact on large block trades, leveraging our Request for Quote process and High Touch Equity service. As an extension of a RIA's trade desk, assisting them through the trading life cycle of an order, you will develop and strengthen relationships with a RIA's Portfolio Managers, Traders, COOs and Compliance Specialists as you leverage pre and post-trade analysis seeking to reduce implicit trading costs and optimize their trading process.

Responsibilities include

  • Drive a variety of high-impact initiatives to further elevate Schwab's client experience, and ensure a proactive approach to seeking quality trade executions
  • Maintain strong relationships with ETF issuers and Market Makers to ensure our trading management process is through clients' eyes
  • Develop order execution strategies for and in concert with RIAs
  • Trade large block Not Held orders and deliver the best price possible by analyzing all pertinent market conditions and various other trade factors
  • Respond to inquiries from channel partners and RIAs with timely and complete information
  • Daily and intraday order book management of Not Held Equity and ETF order flow for RIAs
  • Act as a client advocate by monitoring and/or resolving any trade related concerns to ensure clients are receiving the best execution possible
  • Answer phone and e-mail inquiries regarding order routing & execution to provide exceptional trade related support

What you have

Required Qualifications

  • Active Series 7 and Series 63
  • 5+ years of industry experience trading Equities and ETFs
  • Proficient with Trafix, Bloomberg and EMS/OMS products
  • Primary areas of responsibility will require a high level of knowledge regarding Schwab trading products and services, competitor information, policies and procedures, securities industry, client service and trading
  • Thorough understanding of equities market structure and ETF ecosystem
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong communication, teamwork, and cross-functional relationship building skills
  • Independent judgement with strong analytical and risk assessment skills
  • Ability to adjust to changes quickly and efficiently in a fast paced and stressful environment
  • Critical thinker with ability to react to changes in regulatory, market, and business climate

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor''s Degree
  • Series 57, Series 24 & Series 4
  • Military education or experience may be considered in lieu of civilian requirements listed
