Position Title: Major Gift Officer 

Reports To:  Chief Philanthropy Officer 
Location: On Site at 990 Eddy Street, San Francisco 
Employment Type: Full-time, in-person 

Summary: 
As our Major Gifts Officer you will design, develop and implement our major gift program, and play a crucial role, focusing on achieving CCSF’s major gift fundraising and planned giving program initiatives. The Major Gift Officer is responsible for managing a portfolio of major donors and prospects to advance the mission and goals of Catholic Charities San Francisco, This position is responsible for identifying new prospects as well as cultivating and managing long-term relationships, soliciting significant gifts, and ensuring excellent donor stewardship.  

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Designing and implementing a Major Gifts Strategy and moves management process, working with the CPO to align efforts and to set goals and metrics 
  • Identifying and cultivating potential Major Gift Donors, prospect research and develop and manage tailored cultivation plans with a clear written strategy and timeline for cultivation, solicitation and stewardship. 
  • Managing a portfolio of major donors and prospects. 
  • Evaluating gift opportunities and giving vehicles to align donor interests with organizational needs 
  • Make direct, face-to-face solicitations and securing major gift commitments. 
  • Assist CPO, CEO and Board with portfolio development support, strategic planning and donor communications.  
  • Ensure excellent stewardship through consistent, strategic outreach and recognition, including maintaining strong relationships with current and potential donors, keeping them informed about the use and impact of their gifts 
  • Preparing and presenting effective proposals for prospects and donors 
  • Manage systems and Raiser’s Edge to track and cultivate prospects and donors, 
  • Preparing detailed reports to track major gift program progress using specific metrics 
  • Collaborate with staff responsible for gift processing and finance to ensure proper recording, allocation, documentation, acknowledgement, stewardship, and analysis of major gifts and pledges. 
  • Develop and implement personalized cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship plans. 
  • Demonstrate a solid ethical framework, exhibiting integrity, accountability, and a strong work ethic that aligns with the organization's values  
  • Collaborate with internal teams and programs to align donor interests with funding opportunities. 
  • Coordinate with other team members to ensure that all donor communication is consistent and coordinated 
  • Meet or exceed annual revenue, meeting and engagement goals. 
  • Implement stewardship plan, including acknowledging major donors through public and private recognition. 
  • Work with Director of Marketing and Communications on all print and web-based supporting materials for planned giving programs and stewardship programs. Organizing and attending fundraising events 
  • Manage systems and maintain accurate donor records and reports and to track and cultivate donors and prospects in the Raiser’s Edge CRM – high level of expertise in RE strongly preferred 
  • Ensure all interactions comply with data protection and fundraising ethics standards and best practices 

 

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant subject area such as communications, business, or nonprofit management (Master’s preferred). 
  • 3–5 years of fundraising experience, with a focus on major and planned gifts. 
  • Strong communication and presentation skills. 
  • Strong proficiency and expertise with donor management software Raiser’s Edge 
  • Proven track record of meeting or exceeding fundraising targets. 

Compensation: $130-140,000 annually
