The City of Vacaville invites applications for the position of MAINTENANCE WORKER I/II - PARKS. There is currently one (1) vacancy in the Public Works Department. This recruitment will also serve to establish an eligibility list for possible future use over the next 12-month period.
Salary Information:
Maintenance Worker I - $63,319 - $66,485/Annually
Maintenance Worker II - $68,121 - $82,803/Annually
A 2% COLA is scheduled for 11/1/2026

Maintenance workers in the Parks Division of Public Works perform a variety of maintenance, repair, installation, and construction work related to parks and other City landscape areas. This position is flexibly staffed and may be filled at either level. Maintenance Worker I is the entry level class in the Maintenance Worker series and Maintenance Worker II is the journey level class. Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Any combination of education and experience that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities is:
MAINTENANCE WORKER I
Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
Experience: One (1) year of experience in construction and maintenance work. Experience working in public works is desirable.
MAINTENANCE WORKER II
Education: Equivalent to completion of the twelfth grade.
Experience: Two years of experience in public works general construction, maintenance and repair work, including the operation of some power-driven equipment.
License: Possession of a Qualified Applicators Certificate from State of California Department of Pesticide Regulation is required.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS FOR BOTH LEVELS:
Possession of a valid California Class C Drivers License and a satisfactory driving record are conditions of initial and continued employment.

Information for Part-Time Positions:
Part-time positions are paid an hourly rate and can work up to a maximum of 129 hours per month. Part-time positions are at-will, are not eligible for health or retirement benefits (including CalPERS membership), and do not accrue leave time with the exception of state mandated sick leave (40 hours per year).
Part-time positions are not covered by Social Security and are not eligible for the City of Vacavilles retirement plan through CalPERS and are therefore required to make 7.5% pre-tax contributions into a qualified plan under the Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1990 (OBRA). For the City of Vacaville, the plan is a Section 457 Deferred Compensation Plan through Nationwide Retirement Systems, Inc.
