Position Summary

The Maintenance Technician plays a critical role in ensuring a safe, functional, and welcoming environment for tenants, staff, and visitors. This position is responsible for the day-to-day maintenance, repair, and upkeep of Paraquad's facilities, including the Orthwein Center.

 

The ideal candidate is proactive, solutions-oriented, and committed to delivering high-quality service. This role requires strong technical skills, attention to detail, and a customer-service mindset.

 

Key Responsibilities

Facility Maintenance & Repairs

 

  • Perform routine and emergency maintenance on building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and structural components
  • Diagnose issues and complete general repairs (e.g., painting, carpentry, minor mechanical work)
  • Maintain building appearance, cleanliness, and functionality across all areas
  • Support custodial needs as required during shifts

 

Preventative Maintenance & Inspections

 

  • Conduct regular inspections of building systems to identify and prevent potential failures
  • Execute seasonal maintenance activities (HVAC servicing, filter changes, snow removal, landscaping, etc.)
  • Assist in developing and maintaining a preventative maintenance schedule
  • Ensure compliance with all maintenance schedules and safety standards

 

Work Order & Service Coordination

 

  • Respond to maintenance requests in a timely, professional, and customer-focused manner
  • Track, document, and complete work orders accurately
  • Coordinate with vendors for specialized repairs and maintenance services
  • Obtain quotes and submit recommendations for approval

 

Compliance & Safety

 

  • Coordinate and support inspections by city, fire, and regulatory agencies
  • Maintain required documentation for compliance and safety standards
  • Immediately report non-routine issues (e.g., structural concerns, system failures, safety hazards)
  • Ensure all work is performed in accordance with safety protocols

 

Team Support & Collaboration

 

  • Provide guidance and support to Cleaning Assistants as needed
  • Foster a collaborative environment with staff serving as "eyes and ears" across the facility
  • Communicate clearly with leadership regarding maintenance needs and priorities

 

Administrative Responsibilities

 

  • Maintain accurate maintenance logs, inventory records, and service documentation
  • Complete required reports (monthly, quarterly, annual) on time
  • Participate in required meetings, trainings, and CARF compliance activities

 

Other Responsibilities

 

  • Uphold Paraquad's commitment to the independent living philosophy
  • Protect the confidentiality and privacy of all participants
  • Perform other duties as assigned

 

Schedule Requirements

 

  • Ability to work occasional evenings and at least two weekends per month
  • Availability for emergency response as needed

 

Qualifications

 

Education & Experience

 

  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in building maintenance or related field
  • Hands-on experience with HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and general repairs preferred

 

 

 

Skills & Abilities

 

  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and prioritize multiple tasks
  • Excellent time management and organizational skills
  • Strong communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to read and interpret basic construction drawings and specifications
  • Proficiency with tools and equipment (drills, saws, gauges, etc.)
  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and perform physical labor

  • Facilities are safe, clean, and fully operational
  • Preventative maintenance reduces unexpected repairs
  • Tenants and staff experience responsive, high-quality service
