About Indiana State Prison:

Indiana State Prison is a level‑four maximum‑security facility located in Michigan City, Indiana, with a capacity of more than 2,400 incarcerated adult males. As the oldest correctional facility in the state, it has a long history and operates on a secured 24‑acre campus with ten manned towers. The prison grounds also include a level‑two facility with a capacity of 385 incarcerated adult males. Staff maintain a clean, orderly environment while prioritizing safety and security. Programs available to incarcerated individuals support personal development and re‑entry preparation where applicable. Role Overview:

As a Maintenance Technician, you'll join a full‑service maintenance team at the Indiana State Prison, supporting daily repair and preventive maintenance in plumbing, electrical, HVAC, carpentry, and grounds. This Monday-Friday role offers steady hours, strong safety practices, and hands-on experience. Salary Statement:

The salary for this position traditionally starts at $42,900.00 but may be commensurate with education or work experience. Depending on the retirement plan you choose, the total compensation value of a $42,900.00 salary, including the State's retirement contributions, can reach approximately $69,822.98. A Day in the Life:

The essential functions of this role are as follows:

• Oversee and participates in preventive maintenance and repairs of facilities
• Maintain accountability of materials, tools, equipment, and vehicles.
• Ensure compliance, of self and assigned personnel, with all appropriate protective and safety requirements
• Recruit, select, onboard, and train employees to ensure role responsibilities and expectations are clearly understood while providing opportunities to continue professional development.
• Set expectations, measure progress, provide ongoing feedback, and evaluate the performance of employees. Ensure work adheres to quality standards, deadlines, and proper procedures.
• Workday attendance at assigned worksite(s) is an essential function of this position.

What Youll Need for Success:

Individuals in this role should minimally be able to articulate or demonstrate the following:

• Knowledge of electrical systems, carpentry, plumbing and painting trades.
• Ability to plan, schedule and supervise job sites.
• Ability to fill in for other foreman to ensure the operation of the department.
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret blueprints and other remediation plans and documents.
• Thorough knowledge of standard practices, processes, materials, procedures, and the ability to use tools and equipment of the various trades, such as carpentry, plumbing and electrical.
• Thorough knowledge of the OSHA standards, Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS), occupational hazards and safety precautions required of the various trade areas.
• Ability to plan and estimate project proposals in terms of equipment, man hours and costs.
• Ability to endure exposure to inclement weather.
• Ability to delegate work, set clear direction, and manage workflow.
• Ability to effectively give feedback, provide guidance or corrective action, coach, and develop employee skillsets.

This role must satisfy the following requirements to continue employment:

• Must have and maintain a valid Driver's License.

Supervisory Responsibilities/Direct Reports:

This role may serve as a team lead for an assigned work group.

This role provides supervision for incarcerated individuals and requires a high level of judgment and care.
