Summary
The Maintenance Technician supervises a staff of facilities and production maintenance workers who perform maintenance service and repairs in the areas of plumbing, carpentry, painting, plastering, and machine and electrical servicing for the organizations facilities and production equipment. This position will monitor procedures and equipment to ensure efficiency and effectiveness. The Maintenance Technician contributes to the development of maintenance processes and procedures.
This role requires the ability to diagnose machine issues along with strong critical thinking skills to perform the proper repairs, locate the correct parts, and to effectively communicate with supervision on a myriad of maintenance tasks.
Main Responsibilities
Responsible for promoting, supporting and enforcing the elements of ISO 9001 as they apply to the maintenance department.
- Implement TPM program that supports operations and business objectives.
- Conduct daily shift start-up meetings discussing safety issues and the expected workload.
- Maintain strict adherence to company and safety policies/procedures.
- Follow safety and environmental requirements meeting regulatory requirements.
- Create a culture of safety within the maintenance department.
- Participate in safety meetings and dialogs, perform Job Hazard Analysis, and perform Incident Investigations as needed to maintain the safest work environment possible.
- Take ownership of safety processes; perform maintenance safety program audits (Lockout/Tagout, Confined Space, Fall Protection, PPE, mobile equipment, etc.).
- Inform Manager of all employees or production issues as they arise.
- Directly supervise employees in the maintenance department.
- Ensure machinery in area is safe and working optimally; maintain constant alert for hazardous conditions and practices.
- Responsible for equipment maintenance and reliability throughout the plant and maintain and repair heavy industrial machinery, which includes plant equipment, piping systems, fluid power systems, cutting, burning and all types of welding.
- Responsible for building maintenance and reliability and maintaining all relevant plant systems including, but not limited to, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, landscaping/irrigation, HVAC, and general building construction and improvements.
- Demonstrate the ability to make decisions on equipment repairs and be self-motivated
- Ability to read, follow and understand electrical, mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic drawings, blueprints, schematics, code requirements, service manuals and manufacturers specifications.
- Monitor condition of equipment and make maximum use of planned outages.
- Reduce MTTO (occurrence restoration), increase MTBO (between occurrences).
- Work with Purchasing, Maintenance, Engineering, and Physical Distribution in maintaining services for the plant.
- Determine work priorities for weekly and daily maintenance schedules and assist in the coordination of maintenance activities affecting production or quality.
- Must have the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize to ensure minimum interruption to process.
- Communicate, motivate, supervise, counsel, develop, and discipline all direct reports when necessary.
- Responsible for interviewing, hiring, and training employees as well as appraising performance, rewarding/disciplining, and addressing complaints.
- Conduct annual employee performance reviews; work closely with Manager to implement wage increases.
Technology & Communication Expectations
Effective Maintenance Technicians at Beaver Aerospace are strong partners to supervision and are expected to stay current with company systems, communications, and training. Candidates must be:
- Computer and iPhone literate and able to navigate company systems, applications, and mobile tools to find corrective actions and repair solutions alongside supervision.
- Able to read and respond to daily emails from their supervisor.
- Responsible for staying current with all company communications and training requirements.
- An effective partner in troubleshooting and working with supervision to identify root causes and deliver sound repair solutions.
Our Ideal Candidate
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:
- Must have working knowledge of all or some of the following: electrical/electronic circuits, PLCs, wire installation/termination, combustion, power distribution, electronic process control, conduit bending and installation, schematic reading, AC and DC drive application, and some welding and/or fabrication.
- Must be "hands on" and ensure that all staff receive proper levels of training to enhance knowledge, skills, and abilities of the team.
- Strong diagnostic and critical thinking skills with the judgment to select the right repair approach and source the correct parts.
- Clear, consistent communication with supervision across a wide range of maintenance tasks.
Minimum Requirements:
- Ability to perform Essential Duties and Responsibilities listed above.
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 elements and understanding of their applicability to the department.
- Proficient use of Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint & Outlook); comfortable using computers and iPhones/mobile devices for daily work tasks.
- Experience in Lean Manufacturing concepts and OSHA requirements (preferred).
- Previous production and supervisory and/or leader experience.
- Intermediate understanding and real-world experience in mechanical troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing manufacturing equipment. (bearings, pulleys, belts, lubrication systems, hydraulics, pneumatics, (AC, DC, and servo motors).
- Experience using a wide range of hand tools and power tools used in an industrial environment.
- Basic understanding and real-world experience in facilities maintenance (doors, windows, lighting, ceiling tiles, etc.)
- Ability to work at heights.
- Ability to operate a forklift.
- Preferred three (3) years journey-level experience as a maintenance technician maintaining and repairing heavy industrial machinery.
