Under limited supervision, the Maintenance Technician works independently or as part of a team, responsible forthe maintenance and repair of library buildings, grounds, and equipment.
The Maintenance Technician exercises independent judgement and decision making to safely perform their assigned duties within established policies, procedures, and guidelines.
This position is part of a bargaining unit represented by the Washington Public Employees Association/UFCW local 365.
High school diploma or GED, plus three years' experience independently executing skilled full-time work in building and grounds maintenance. Successful completion of a certified, related course of study desired.
A valid Washington state driver's license, a safe driving record, and three years of driving experience are required to drive a library-owned vehicle for library business.
As part of the hiring process, candidates will complete a Job Candidate Assessment Test related to the duties of position. The selected candidate will complete pre-employment fitness for duty exam.
Employees regularly scheduled 20 or more hours per week are eligible to participate in our medical, dental, vision, basic life, AD&D, long term disability insurance plans, health reimbursement arrangement (HRA), as well as our employee assistance program. Additionally, full-time employees earn 15 days of vacation leave, 13 days of sick leave, and 1 personal day each year.
Offers to new employees are expected to be between $26.54-$29.00 depending on required and relevant experience and in alignment with internal equity.

DUTIES:

Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions and involves medium to heavy physical demands involving frequent movement, lifting, carrying, and maneuvering over prolonged periods of time; operating hand and power tools, janitorial equipment, and other equipment commonly used to maintain safety and operational facilities and grounds. Prolonged periods of walking, standing, bending, stooping, stretching, pushing, pulling, reaching, climbing ladders, and/or kneeling. Occasional use of keyboards, telephones and other office equipment. Must be able to work while others are working in a shared team area. Frequent exposure to dust, dirt and fumes while work is conducted in loud noise or confined areas, outdoors on uneven ground and/or in air-conditioned equipment rooms.
Frequently, the incumbent must safely move, maneuver or transfer objects, equipment and power tools or materials weighing up to 50 pounds to carts, tables, shelves of varying heights, roofs and in and out of buildings and up and down stairs. Occasionally, the incumbent must safely move or maneuver objects or materials weighing up to 20 pounds, including stooping, reaching, lifting, bending or transferring materials and supplies. Incumbents must move between locations within the library and to/from the delivery vehicles. (typically, a large, sprinter-style van or truck).
Visual acuity essential for tasks include identifying, observing and inspecting technical and complex written communications; driving library vehicles. Work performed and delivered are guided by precise deadlines. High cognitive demands include attention to detail, ability to evaluate road and traffic conditions, operate a large vehicle and equipment safely, plan routes and defensive driving techniques, critical thinking, problem solving and following clear procedures.
Excellent communication skills, customer service abilities, and multitasking are also essential for success in this role.
This is a driving position that requires a valid Washington State driver's license and a safe driving record.

This is a full-time, non-exempt 40 hour per week position. Schedules are subject to change to meet the needs of the library. The anticipated schedule for this position is Monday-Friday, 7:00AM to 3:30PM. Occasional overtime as needed.
