Description

The Maintenance Supervisor is responsible for leading day-to-day maintenance operations in a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This position coordinates corrective and preventive maintenance, manages maintenance workflow and spare-parts control through SAP, partners with production on equipment scheduling, and supports plant reliability, food safety, and compliance objectives.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide leadership, direction, and daily supervision to maintenance technicians and parts room staff to support safe, effective, and timely completion of maintenance work.

• Promote a safe work environment and maintain high standards of housekeeping throughout the maintenance department and shop areas.

• Supervise parts room operations and maintain inventory accuracy through SAP inventory control for in-line machines and plant support equipment.

• Identify and maintain critical spare parts required to support equipment uptime and minimize unplanned downtime.

• Analyze min/max levels and schedule spare-parts replenishment to ensure appropriate inventory levels and cost control.

• Identify obsolete components and coordinate with OEMs and vendors on replacement options, upgrades, and equipment improvement opportunities.

• Expedite emergency parts, vendor services, and repair support to restore equipment operation as quickly as possible.

• Convert purchase requisitions to purchase orders using SAP and maintain open PO reporting in accordance with company procedures.

• Evaluate equipment condition and maintenance requirements and document standard maintenance procedures, PM sheets, and repair practices.

• Manage maintenance workflow processes to maintain an accurate maintenance database, including work orders, parts consumption, labor tracking, and PM completion.

• Review and update maintenance documentation to support BRC, food safety, quality, and audit compliance requirements.

• Maintain SAP data related to maintenance work order status, preventive maintenance execution, and inventory usage.

• Develop and distribute reports related to machine downtime, maintenance performance, and parts consumption trends.

• Work closely with production scheduling and operations to establish and execute preventive maintenance schedules with minimal disruption to production.

• Determine labor requirements and assign the appropriate number of mechanics and timeline for PM and repair work.

• Support operational excellence and continuous improvement initiatives to streamline maintenance processes, improve reliability, and reduce downtime.

• Utilize structured performance and accountability methods to improve shop organization, maintenance execution, and departmental results.

• Cover for the Maintenance Manager when unavailable and provide shift or departmental leadership as needed.

• Assist with plant startups, shutdowns, changeovers, and equipment recovery efforts.

• Serve as a contact for alarm system response and maintenance-related emergencies.

• Provide SAP support to plant personnel, including assistance with production work order consumptions and on-site SAP training.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Must be able to communicate effectively in English, both verbally and in writing.

• In-depth knowledge of electrical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and mechanical systems in a manufacturing environment.

• Must be particularly strong in electrical troubleshooting.

• Strong troubleshooting and maintenance experience with paper converting and packaging equipment, including slitters, die cutters, forming equipment, conveyors, compressors, hydraulic systems, motors, and control systems.

• Detailed knowledge of electrical circuits and controllers, including AC/DC systems, PLCs, motors, drives, and machine controls.

• Ability to read and work from mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and equipment prints.[7]Working knowledge of preventive maintenance systems, maintenance planning, work order control, and spare-parts inventory management.

• Experience using SAP or a comparable CMMS for maintenance tracking, purchasing, and inventory control preferred.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to troubleshoot issues, identify root cause, and implement corrective action.

• Knowledge and skill in the use of hand tools, power tools, and shop equipment.

• Ability to lead employees, prioritize work, and coordinate multiple maintenance activities in a fast-paced production environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous supervisory or lead experience in industrial maintenance strongly preferred.

• Experience in paper converting, paper packaging, corrugated, folding carton, or other high-speed manufacturing environments preferred.

• Experience supporting food packaging operations and working within BRC, GMP, or similar regulated manufacturing environments preferred.

• Associate's degree, technical training, or maintenance certification preferred; additional engineering or maintenance education is a plus in comparable paper-packaging roles.

Physical Requirements

• Must be capable of bending, lifting, and moving tool parts and machine equipment up to 50 pounds.

• Must be able to push, pull, or carry light to moderate loads.
