I. JOB SUMMARY

Performs advanced supervisory maintenance and construction work. Works involves overseeing

maintenance and construction staff involved in the installation, care, and repair of state facilities and

equipment. Works under minimal supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and

independent judgment.

II. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

A. Oversees and schedules preventive maintenance programs; inspects and tests electrical

equipment, lighting, and power circuits; schedules and inspects completed work on buildings,

equipment, machinery, and grounds; and reports inspection findings to staff and management..

B. Oversees the preparation of estimates for work hours, materials, and resources required for

projects; and communicates and coordinates with vendors.

C. Confers with staff regarding workloads, training, safety programs, and job priorities; participates

in planning repairs, maintenance, and installation of electrical systems, electrical control

devices, and electrically-driven power equipment used in the packing and processing plants;

and prepares reports and maintains records of repairs.

D. Designs the layout and implementation of new electrical systems and controls to include the

drawing of schematics and wiring diagrams for machinery.

E. Oversees the supervision of inmates in the maintenance and repair of equipment.

F. Assists in maintaining security of assigned inmates.

III. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

A. Education, Experience, and Training

  1. Graduation from an accredited senior high school or equivalent or GED.

  2. Three years full-time, wage-earning experience as an electrician in a maintenance,

construction, or industrial setting.

Associate''s degree from a college or university accredited by an organization recognized

by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or by the United States

Department of Education (USDE) in an electrical field and one year full-time, wage-earning

experience as an electrician in a maintenance, construction, or industrial setting.

or

Completion of a program in an electrical field from a trade or technical school accredited

by CHEA or by the USDE and one year full-time, wage-earning experience as an

electrician in a maintenance, construction, or industrial setting.

or

Completion of a program in an electrical field from a U.S. Military training school and one

year full-time, wage-earning experience as an electrician in a maintenance, construction,

or industrial setting.

B. Knowledge and Skills

  1. Knowledge of primary and secondary electrical systems and related controls.

  2. Knowledge of maintenance procedures and policies related to electrical systems.

  3. Knowledge of agency and departmental organizational structure, policies, procedures,

rules, and regulations preferred.

  1. Skill in the use of test instruments, equipment, and tools.

  2. Skill to communicate ideas and instructions clearly and concisely.

  3. Skill to coordinate with other staff, departments, officials, agencies, organizations, and the

public.

  1. Skill to interpret and apply rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.

  2. Skill in problem-solving techniques.

  3. Skill to prepare and maintain accurate records, files, and reports.

  4. Skill to train and supervise inmates.

IV. ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS WITH OR WITHOUT REASONABLE ACCOMMODATION

A. Ability to walk, stand, sit, kneel, push, stoop, crawl, twist, reach above the shoulder, grasp, pull,

bend repeatedly, climb stairs and ladders, identify colors, hear with aid, see, write, count, read,

speak, analyze, alphabetize, lift and carry 15-44 lbs., perceive depth, operate a motor vehicle,

and operate motor equipment.

B. Conditions include working inside and outside, working around machines with moving parts and

moving objects, working around moving objects or vehicles, radiant and electrical energy,

working closely with others, working alone, working protracted or irregular hours, excessive

heat, cold, dampness and chill, constant noise, dust, grease, oils, solvents, slippery or uneven

walking surfaces, working at heights, working on ladders or scaffolding, vibration, and traveling

by car, van, bus, and airplane.

C. Equipment (machines, tools, devices) used in performing only the essential functions include

computer and related equipment, calculator, copier, fax machine, telephone, dolly, all applicable

tools, machines, and testing devices used in industrial electrical maintenance, electrical testing

equipment, and automobile.
