Maintenance Supervisor – 2nd Shift | Opelika, AL | Avg $63K–$95K

Role Overview

A USDA-inspected food manufacturing facility in Opelika, Alabama is seeking an experienced Maintenance Supervisor to lead 2nd shift maintenance operations within a high-volume production environment.

This role is responsible for overseeing maintenance teams, minimizing equipment downtime, supporting production goals, and driving continuous improvement initiatives across the facility. The ideal candidate has strong technical maintenance knowledge, manufacturing leadership experience, and a proactive approach to safety, reliability, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance Leadership

Supervise daily maintenance operations and work order completion

Lead and mentor a maintenance team of 10–20 employees

Coordinate preventive maintenance schedules for production equipment and facility systems

Respond quickly to production breakdowns while maintaining safety and productivity standards

Support employee coaching, training, and development initiatives

Ensure compliance with OSHA, USDA, and facility standards

Operations & Reliability

Troubleshoot equipment issues and implement long-term corrective solutions

Monitor equipment performance and identify operational improvements

Manage spare parts inventory to reduce downtime and support production schedules

Support plant reliability and maintenance performance initiatives

Track maintenance KPIs including downtime reduction, cost savings, and project completion rates

Project & Budget Management

Coordinate in-house maintenance and facility improvement projects

Support productivity, efficiency, and reliability improvements

Monitor maintenance budgets and cost containment efforts

Maintain maintenance documentation and reporting systems

Assist with maintenance planning and operational scheduling

Collaboration & Communication

Partner with production and operations teams to improve plant performance

Communicate expectations, maintenance priorities, and performance goals

Serve as a key point of contact for maintenance-related concerns

Escalate operational issues when necessary to support facility operations

Requirements

3–6 years of maintenance experience within manufacturing or production environments

Minimum 2 years of supervisory or leadership experience

Experience working with electrical, hydraulic, refrigeration, pneumatic, boiler, and mechanical systems

Understanding of OSHA and USDA regulations

Ability to read blueprints, diagrams, and technical documentation

Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities

Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and basic computer systems

Strong communication and leadership skills

Preferred Qualifications

Food manufacturing or meat processing experience

Technical certifications related to maintenance systems

Production scheduling or CMMS system experience

Demonstrated cost savings or operational improvement success
