OUR MISSION

Our mission is to ensure the physical, operational and financial integrity of the regional flood risk management system, in southeastern Louisiana as a defense against floods and storm surge from hurricanes. We accomplish this mission by working with local, regional, state and federal partners to plan, design, construct, operate and maintain projects that will reduce the probability and risk of flooding for the residents and businesses within our jurisdiction.

OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE

The Maintenance Repairer Master is responsible for providing advanced journeyman level work in multiple trades, including HVAC, plumbing, machinist, and welding. This includes troubleshooting issues in the maintenance of buildings and all related structures. Responsibilities encompass diagnosing problems, implementing effective solutions, and ensuring that all systems are functioning efficiently. The incumbent must be self-motivated. Tasks may be performed at SLFPA-E facilities or within Jefferson, Orleans and St. Bernard Parishes.

Minimum Qualifications

One year of the required experience for the following minimum qualifications must have been on-the-job experience:

Three years of experience or training in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance; OR

Completion of a two-year vocational technical program in general building construction, construction technology, or engineering plus one year of experience in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance; OR

Twelve semester hours in construction management, construction technology, or engineering, or any combination of these courses plus one year of experience in the building construction trades, building maintenance, maintenance or repair of mechanical equipment, or park operations and grounds maintenance.

Job Duties and Other Information

Job Duties:

  • Serves as the lead worker on assignments and directs the activities of lower-level employees including maintenance repairers and trades apprentices.

  • Responsible for troubleshooting and the repair of complex problems.

  • Responsible for the planning, organizing and determination of materials needed to accomplish assigned tasks.

  • Inspects, repairs, and installs pumps for sewage lift systems, air lines, water lines, gas lines, etc. Interprets plans in order to complete projects in a timely and cost-effective manner.

  • Assists other skilled journeyman in the maintenance and repair of HVAC systems and spray equipment on herbicide applicator trucks.

  • Place and remove stop logs during high water emergencies. Make, place and remove sandbags whenever needed. Place and remove barricades and traffic cones.

Appointment Type: This appointment type can be filled as Probational, Promotional, Lateral Transfer, Detail to Special Duty or Job Appointment

Career Progression: This position does not participate in a Career Progression Group.

Compensation: The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience.

NOTE: The Southeast Louisiana Flood Protection Authority - East (SLFPA-E) is an emergency-oriented agency. Part of the SLFPA-Es mission is to protect the residents of the east-bank of Jefferson Parish, St. Bernard and the east-bank of Orleans from tidal surge, wind-driven water and river flooding. In emergencies during Mississippi River flooding and Hurricane/ Tropical storm events, the incumbent will be on call and must report for duty if so required and remain on duty in such situations until released from duty by the Appointing Authority.
