Position Description Summary/Purpose:

This position oversees the daily activity of the Maintenance Department for all University buildings with a focus on our Mechanical Systems, including all contracted services for both routine and preventative maintenance. This position is responsible for managing the maintenance of all University HVAC systems, boilers, all automated building systems, coordinating changes and adjustments as required, scheduling all mechanical repairs, and reviewing, and managing all campus utility usage.

Essential Job Functions/Primary Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for managing subcontracted services and related contracts.
  • Oversees the mechanical systems and assesses all buildings for needed repairs.
  • Ensures compliance and maintains records of all campus Environment Health and Safety functions.
  • Assists in the planning, evaluation, and budgeting of deferred maintenance.
  • Assists in all aspects of building-related projects for all campus buildings or properties.
  • Maintain compliance with all local and state authorities regarding building life and safety operations.
  • Maintain warehouse inventory and department purchases.
  • Plans and manages department reconfiguration as necessary.
  • Oversee monthly billing and assist in preparing the annual department budget.
  • Safely conducts all work and ensures all work safety practices are followed.
Other Functions:
  • Performs similar or related work as required, directed, or as the situation dictates.
  • Continues professional development and training; keeps current with trends.
  • Assists other department staff as needed to promote a team effort.
Knowledge, Ability, and Skill:
  • Intimate knowledge of multi-location HVAC. BMS, and MEP systems and controls..
  • Strong communication and organizational skills.
  • Advanced knowledge of all maintenance tools and equipment.
  • Proven supervisory skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to developing and fostering best practices and policies to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion, and build an environment in which all members of the University community are treated with respect and dignity.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
  • High School diploma or GED.
  • Minimum of five years of relevant experience in mechanical systems and facilities/building maintenance.
  • Strong organizational skills to include the ability to effectively manage multiple projects simultaneously (multi-tasking), prioritize tasks, and complete assignments within expected time frames
Special Requirements: CT Driver's license and insured vehicle
