JOB TITLE: Maintenance Foreman

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Training and experience in one or more given trades such as heating/air conditioning, plumbing/boiler repair, electrical, carpentry, or painting.
  • Leadership skills necessary to direct the work of the maintenance team.
  • Valid Alabama Driver's License.

FLSA: Non-Exempt

REPORTS TO: Maintenance Supervisor/Designee

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assigns jobs to specific personnel and provides coordination among maintenance functions.
  • Ensures that safety practices are followed.
  • Assists in all work areas when needed.
  • Directs the work of assigned maintenance personnel.
  • Performs energy management setup changes.
  • Picks up surplus property and processes for auction.
  • Provides advisory assistance regarding equipment and facility needs and conditions.
  • Supervises and trains the maintenance personnel for maximum productivity.
  • Inspects all schools on a regular basis to ensure a safe and desirable condition for learning.
  • Maintains all equipment manuals, equipment warranties, and tools inventories.
  • Reviews work orders to ensure proper documentation.
  • Establishes and evaluates the preventive maintenance program.
  • Develops and updates site plans showing utilities that serve the schools or are on School Board property.
  • Directs employees in the use of safety equipment and procedures.
  • Serves as the energy audit manager for the System.
  • Demonstrates initiative in the performance of assigned responsibilities.
  • Ensures adherence to good safety standards.
  • Models and maintain high ethical standards.
  • Follows attendance, punctuality, and proper dress rules.
  • Maintains confidentiality regarding school/workplace matters.
  • Meets and deals effectively with the general public, staff members, students, parents, administrator, and other contact persons using tact and good judgment.
  • Participates successfully in the training programs offered to increase skill and proficiency related to assignment.
  • Communicates effectively with students, parents, staff, and administrators.
  • Informs the supervisor of potential problems or unusual events.
  • Responds to inquiries and concerns in a timely manner.
  • Supervises assigned personnel, conducts annual performance appraisals, and makes appropriate employment recommendations.
  • Prepares all required reports and maintains all appropriate records.
  • Adheres to all federal, state, and local laws, policies, and regulations.
  • Exhibits interpersonal skills to work as an effective team member.
  • Demonstrates support for the school system's goals and priorities.
  • Serves as the system's facility inspector.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Knowledge of the building trades and applicable functions.
  • Knowledge of state and local policies and procedures.
  • Ability to read blueprints and prepare project estimations.
  • Ability to organize effectively.
  • Ability to speak and write clearly and correctly.
  • Ability to supervise and evaluate personnel assigned to the area of facilities.
  • Proficiency in technology programs such as Word, Excel, Access,
  • Ability to communicate effectively via e-mail and other electronic communications.
  • Ability to deal with people in a pleasant, courteous manner.
  • Ability to use excellent business English, grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
  • Physical mobility, dexterity, strength, and visual acuity to meet system needs.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the system's approved compensation plan.

The Salary Schedule may be viewed online at www.hcboe.us under the Human Resources tab.

Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the system.

EVALUATION:

Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Board's policy on evaluation of personnel.
