MAU is hiring a Maintenance Engineer for our client in Blacksburg, SC. As a Maintenance Engineer, you will manage plant maintenance, reliability, and asset performance while improving equipment uptime, reducing reactive maintenance, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives within a Process Safety Management (PSM)-covered facility. This is a direct-hire opportunity.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering (Mechanical or Electrical preferred)
  • 1+ year of manufacturing experience
  • Experience with CMMS systems
  • Demonstrated leadership experience
  • Project management and cost control experience

Preferred Education and Experience

  • 3+ years of manufacturing experience

General Requirements

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Knowledge of reliability tools, including Root Cause Analysis (RCA), Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA), and predictive maintenance (PdM) technologies
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with Engineering Services, Maintenance, Operations, and technical teams
  • Strong communication skills for working with stakeholders and vendors

Essential Functions

  • Promote and enforce all safety, environmental, and PSM/Mechanical Integrity regulatory requirements.
  • Lead or support safety initiatives, including VPP participation, audits, and incident investigations.
  • Identify and mitigate equipment reliability-related safety risks.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental permits and Responsible Care initiatives.
  • Manage daily maintenance activities, including breakdown, preventive, and predictive maintenance.
  • Develop and improve maintenance strategies to enhance equipment reliability.
  • Reduce reactive maintenance through Root Cause Analysis (RCA).
  • Drive corrective actions for recurring "bad actor" equipment.
  • Support maintenance teams to improve execution quality.
  • Oversee predictive maintenance technologies, including vibration analysis, oil analysis, infrared thermography, and ultrasonic monitoring.
  • Prioritize predictive maintenance findings and convert them into actionable work.
  • Improve the effectiveness of the predictive maintenance program.
  • Utilize the CMMS to manage work orders and maintenance activities.
  • Improve CMMS data quality and maintenance workflow effectiveness.
  • Optimize preventive maintenance programs and job plans.
  • Plan and execute unit outages and shutdowns.
  • Prioritize maintenance backlog based on operational risk and business impact.
  • Support backlog reduction and workload balancing initiatives.
  • Manage spare parts strategy and optimize maintenance inventory.
  • Ensure critical spare parts availability while controlling inventory costs.
  • Maintain accurate Bills of Materials (BOMs).
  • Control maintenance expenditures and drive cost reduction initiatives.
  • Analyze maintenance cost and performance data.
  • Support maintenance budgeting and forecasting activities.
  • Provide troubleshooting and engineering support for plant equipment.
  • Support equipment design, modification, installation, and commissioning activities.
  • Participate in Management of Change (MOC) processes.
  • Lead and develop maintenance and reliability personnel.
  • Ensure maintenance work is completed safely and effectively.
  • Promote a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Maintain effective communication with stakeholders and vendors.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

  • Work within a Process Safety Management (PSM)-covered manufacturing facility.
  • Support production equipment, utilities, facility infrastructure, and maintenance systems.

Physical Demands

  • Sit for at least 50% of the workday.
  • Stand while working for at least 50% of the workday.
  • Move throughout the plant for at least 25% of the workday.
  • Lift up to 35 pounds without assistance for up to 10% of the workday.
