The La Center School District has an opportunity for a General Laborer to work four (4) days per week in the Maintenance Department during the school district's summer recess (June 22 - August 28, 2026).

Position Summary: Under the direction of the Maintenance Supervisor, the temporary General Laborer will support the district's mission by assisting the regular custodial, maintenance, and grounds-keeping staff with a wide variety of interior and exterior duties requiring manual labor in preparation for the 2026/2027 school year. Duties may include, but will not be limited to, assisting with classroom moves and portable classroom preparation, moving boxes and furniture, mowing lawns and performing general grounds maintenance, painting, running errands, and performing other general labor tasks as needed. The ideal candidate must have a strong self-initiative, be adaptable to changing work priorities, and possess the willingness to do whatever it takes to get the job done as part of the team.

Terms of Employment: June 22 - August 28, 2026; Monday-Thursday (6:30 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. with a 30-minute unpaid lunch break).

  • Successful candidates may undergo appropriate applicant testing prior to being offered an interview
  • The successful candidate for this position must be fingerprinted. Employment is contingent upon a satisfactory background check and clearance by the Washington State Patrol and the Federal Bureau of Investigation at the applicant's expense.

Required Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Significant lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling; frequent climbing and balancing; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity is required
  • Ability to lift a minimum of fifty (50) pounds
  • Strong self-initiative with the ability to work as part of a team while working independently with minimal supervision
  • Punctual, with the ability to meet deadlines and adapt to changing work priorities

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous experience in a similar role in a K-12 educational setting highly preferred
  • A valid state-issued driver's license with a clean driving record in order to operate district vehicles as needed

Pay: $17.33/hour

Benefits: Eligible employees may accrue sick leave at the rate of one (1) hour of sick leave for every 40 hours worked under Washington State Law. Upon working 630 hours in a school year, eligible employees and their qualified dependents may be eligible for insurance benefits through School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB) which includes, medical, dental, and vision. Employer-paid long-term disability, life and AD&D insurance are available for the employee only. Optional benefits under SEBB include, supplemental life, employee paid long-term disability, FSA and DCAP.
