The City of Oceanside is currently accepting applications for a Maintenance Assistant in the Beach & Park Maintenance Division of Public Works department. The Maintenance Assistant will be required to have knowledge of plumbing, electrical and basic carpentry skills. This position would be required to work weekends.
Job Summary
This is an hourly, extra-help position which does not include leave or medical benefits, and will not exceed 999 hours per fiscal year. Minimum Qualifications:

Working Conditions and Selection Process
Environmental Conditions: Office and field environment; travel from site to site; exposure to noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, gases, inclement weather conditions.
Physical Conditions: Essential functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for walking, standing or sitting for prolonged periods of time; operating motorized equipment and vehicles; visual acuity for reading schematics and plans.
Selection Process: All properly completed applications will be reviewed and the most appropriately qualified candidates will be invited to continue in the selection process. Qualified candidates may be invited to an oral interview to evaluate job-related experience and training.

Changes to Accrued Paid Sick Leave
Senate Bill (SB) 616 went into effect January 1, 2024 as an amendment to SB 1522. The new bill increases the number of sick leave hours accrued and sick leave hours able to be used by Hourly Extra Help and Part-Time employees in a calendar year. It will not apply to retired annuitants.
The law states that, unless exempt, the part-time employee is entitled to receive the minimum requirements for paid sick leave. The City of Oceanside will ensure that part-time employees will accrue paid sick leave pursuant to the minimum requirements stated in the California Labor Code §245 et seq.
