Mainframe Technical Specialist

Location: Raleigh, NC

Duration: 12 Months (Onsite)

Seeking an experienced Mainframe Technical Specialist to provide technical leadership and operational support for enterprise mainframe applications. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in IBM mainframe technologies and will play a key role in maintaining, optimizing, and supporting mission-critical systems. This position requires strong analytical skills, hands-on troubleshooting experience, and the ability to collaborate with application development and infrastructure teams to ensure system reliability and performance.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide technical expertise for IBM z/OS environments, ensuring system stability, performance, and operational efficiency.
• Support configuration management and software release activities using Endevor while following established change management procedures.
• Develop, review, and optimize SQL statements to improve application performance and reduce processing costs.
• Utilize DB2 tools and utilities to support database administration, monitoring, maintenance, and troubleshooting activities.
• Analyze complex SQL queries and recommend performance improvements, indexing strategies, and optimization techniques.
• Administer and support CICS regions, including troubleshooting application issues, debugging transaction failures, and assisting development teams.
• Collaborate with developers, database administrators, middleware teams, and infrastructure engineers to resolve production issues and implement technical solutions.
• Support enterprise mainframe environments by identifying performance bottlenecks, resolving incidents, and recommending continuous improvements.

Required Technical Expertise:

• IBM z/OS operating system
• CICS Transaction Server
• DB2 for z/OS
• Endevor source code and release management
• IMS
• JCL (Job Control Language)
• Elixir
• IBM MQ and middleware technologies (preferred)

Required Qualifications:

• Minimum 7 years of experience working with IBM z/OS in enterprise mainframe environments.
• At least 7 years of experience supporting Endevor configuration and release management.
• Strong SQL programming experience with the ability to analyze and optimize complex queries.
• Extensive experience working with DB2 tools and utilities.
• Hands-on experience supporting CICS administration, debugging, and application troubleshooting.
• Experience with IMS, JCL, and enterprise batch processing.
• Familiarity with IBM MQ and middleware technologies is highly desirable.
