Job Title: Mainframe Developer

Location: Minneapolis, MN (Onsite)

Job Type: Contract

Rate: $55/hr

Job Description

We are seeking an experienced Mainframe Developer with strong expertise in COBOL, JCL, DB2, CICS, and VSAM to design, develop, maintain, and optimize high-volume enterprise applications. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience working in large transaction-based systems, strong debugging skills, and the ability to collaborate across technical and business teams throughout the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).

Must Have Technical/Functional Skills

10+ years of Mainframe Application Development experience.

Strong expertise in COBOL, JCL, DB2, CICS, and VSAM.

Experience with Endevor, File Manager, CA7, IBM Developer for z/OS (IDz), GitLab, and TSO.

Strong knowledge of DB2 database development.

Experience with Agile/SDLC methodologies.

Excellent debugging, troubleshooting, and performance tuning skills.

Experience with unit, system, and functional testing.

Strong communication and leadership skills.

Roles & Responsibilities

Design, code, test, debug, document, maintain, and enhance complex Mainframe applications.

Participate in application architecture, project estimation, planning, and implementation activities.

Recommend technical solutions aligned with enterprise architecture, standards, and business objectives.

Perform impact analysis and guide teams through application changes.

Establish, refine, and maintain development and testing environments.

Review and improve unit testing processes and test plans.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams throughout the software development lifecycle.

Design detailed program specifications while ensuring optimal application performance.

Investigate and resolve complex business and technical issues.

Monitor application performance and identify opportunities for optimization.

Develop and maintain technical documentation and design specifications.

Follow coding standards and industry best practices during development and deployment.
